Southern Spaces is an open-access, multidisciplinary digital journal that focuses on the real and imagined spaces of the US South and its global connections. We publish work that disrupts the idea of a monolithic U.S. South. We focus on ideas that interrogate historical developments and cultural forms associated with place by offering new and critical perspectives. Southern Spaces is committed to highlighting the varied and often overlooked stories of the U.S. South, with a special focus on analyzing the experiences of communities that are often left out of mainstream narratives. Please note that we do not accept submissions that perpetuate or promote social inequality. Our journal is dedicated to supporting graduate students and early-career scholars throughout the publication process.
