Ridge Oak Senior Housing Wi-Fi Acceptable Use Policy
1. Wi-Fi Access
Ridge Oak provides free Wi-Fi access for residents to connect to the Internet, subject to this Acceptable Use Policy. Once this document is signed and returned to the Ridge Oak office, residents will receive the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and their unique password.
Access is available on personal devices (computers, tablets, phones, smart televisions, etc.) within the interiors of Ridge Oak buildings where a Wi-Fi signal is available. Outdoor areas are not covered.
Residents are responsible for using the Wi-Fi service solely for personal, non-commercial use, including browsing the internet and streaming content.
2. Support Policy
Network Status Support:
Ridge Oak staff will assist with confirming whether the Wi-Fi network is online. Residents should contact the Ridge Oak office at 908-221-0266 during business hours for this network status inquiry.
Password Assistance:
Residents can request password resets through the Ridge Oak office. Residents should contact the Ridge Oak office at 908-221-0266 during business hours to request a password reset.
Device Connectivity:
Ridge Oak provides a one-time, 30-minute appointment for new residents to assist with connecting devices to the Wi-Fi network. This support is limited to verifying network status and assisting with basic device setup (e.g., connecting a smartphone, tablet, or laptop to the Wi-Fi).
Limitations:
Ridge Oak staff cannot assist with account setup or connection to streaming services or other applications. Ridge Oak staff cannot troubleshoot personal device issues or device connectivity beyond confirming the network status. Ridge Oak is not responsible for any issues related to device configuration, software, internet speed, or settings.
3. Network Usage Guidelines
Appropriate Use:
Wi-Fi is provided for personal use only, including web browsing, streaming, and other internet activities. Residents must use the network responsibly and in accordance with this Acceptable Use Policy.
Bandwidth Management:
Due to the shared nature of the Wi-Fi network, residents may experience slower speeds during periods of high usage (e.g., multiple devices connected or heavy internet activities like large downloads and streaming). Ridge Oak reserves the right to prioritize network resources to ensure equitable access for all users.
4. Security and Privacy
Password Protection:
Residents must keep their individual Wi-Fi password confidential. Sharing Wi-Fi credentials with unauthorized individuals is strictly prohibited.
Device Security:
While Ridge Oak takes steps to ensure network security, it cannot guarantee the security of personal devices. Residents are responsible for ensuring that their devices are secure, regularly updated, and protected with current security patches and anti-virus software.
5. Termination of Access
Ridge Oak reserves the right to terminate or restrict Wi-Fi access for any resident who violates the terms outlined in this Acceptable Use Policy. Misuse or violations of the policy may result in the loss of access to the Wi-Fi network.
6. Schedule of Services
Internet Connectivity:
Ridge Oak will provide Internet access for a limited number of devices within each resident’s home. To connect to the network, devices must have either a 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n/ax or 5 GHz 802.11a/n/ac/ax wireless radio. Wired connections are not supported.
Device Configuration:
Each resident will be provided with a unique password. Residents are responsible for selecting the correct wireless network on their connected devices and entering the password provided to gain internet access.
Security Requirements:
Devices must support WPA2 or WPA3 security standards to connect to the Wi-Fi network.
Network Issues:
If a network issue arises, Ridge Oak will address and resolve the problem. However, if the issue lies with a resident’s device, the resident is responsible for resolving it independently.
7. Disclaimer of Liability for Use of the Internet
Ridge Oak is not responsible for any material viewed or downloaded from the internet. The internet contains billions of pages, some of which may include offensive, sexually explicit, or inappropriate content. Even harmless search queries may lead to potentially harmful sites. Residents access the Internet at their own risk and acknowledge that Ridge Oak is not liable for any content accessed or emails received, including unsolicited and offensive material.
Ridge Oak shall not be responsible or liable for any loss, damage, or compromise of data, accounts, or devices resulting from malware, viruses, unauthorized access, or other security incidents affecting a resident’s personal device.
8. Prohibited Activities
Illegal Content:
Residents may not use the Wi-Fi service to access, share, or download illegal material, including pirated content, or engage in any unlawful activities.
Harassment or Offensive Content:
Residents are prohibited from creating or sharing content that is harassing, offensive, obscene, or discriminatory (e.g., material related to sex, race, color, national origin, religion, age, disability, or other protected characteristics).
Network Disruption:
Residents must not engage in activities that disrupt, overload, or damage the Wi-Fi network, including activities that hinder the performance of the network for other users.
9. Illegal Copying
Residents must not illegally copy materials protected by copyright law or make them available for others to copy. All residents are responsible for complying with copyright laws and licenses governing software, files, documents, and other materials.
10. Accessing the Internet
There is a network firewall in place to separate resident networks from each other and additional Ridge Oak networks. To maintain security and prevent the spread of viruses or other malicious software, residents must access the internet through the Ridge Oak network firewall. Any attempt to bypass or circumvent the firewall will result in immediate termination of Internet access.
Ridge Oak will enforce filtering policies and procedures in line with industry best practices. This may include, but is not limited to, blocking access to content or materials that could harm the security or performance of the network, as well as restricting network connections to or from geographic regions, IP addresses, or domains known for high levels of malicious activity, cyberattacks, or other security threats. Ridge Oak and its managed services provider regularly review and update these restrictions based on the latest threat intelligence.
11. Virus Detection
Residents should not download files, accept email attachments from untrusted sources, or use non-company disks without scanning them for viruses using approved antivirus software. If a virus is suspected, residents should immediately contact the Ridge Oak office.
Residents are required to have anti-virus security software installed and actively running on all devices connected to the Ridge Oak network.
12. Amendments and Revisions
Ridge Oak reserves the right to amend or revise this policy as needed. Residents will be notified of any significant changes to the policy and will receive updated versions as necessary.
13. Violations of this Policy
Any resident who violates this Acceptable Use Policy may face termination of access to the Wi-Fi network. In cases of illegal activity, Ridge Oak will cooperate with law enforcement authorities as needed.
