Bulky Item Collection Requirements

You must pre-pay for this service
Up to three items are $15 and each additional item is $5
Items are typically collected at the curb within 1-5 buisness days

The Town can collect:

Appliances
Furniture
Electronics
Exercise equipment

The Town cannot collect:

Recycling (such as cardbord, unless it's used pizza boxes)
Construction materials (such as lumber, wooden fencing, cabinets, countertops, interior doors, etc)
Hazardous waste (such as paint, gasoline)

If you live in an apartment complex with a dumpster:

Ask your property manager how they manage bulky items at the dumpster
If they say you can leave the items by the dumpster, place them next to the dumpster, not directly in front of it.

Residential Trash Cart Requirements

The Town provides one trash cart at no charge. If you need your first trash can or to replace your only trash can, please email publicworks@townofchapelhill.org or call 919-969-5100.
Each additional trash cart is $60 per cart
All trash must be bagged. Your cart will not be emptied if the trash is loose or unbagged.

Yard Trimmings Collection Requirements

Includes brush, limbs, leaves, grass clippings, and other garden/yard debris
All tree limbs must be cut down to 4 feet or less in length and less than 10 inches across
The Town does not collect large logs, crossties, and clearing debris from lots

Yard Trimmings Roll Carts

Yard Trimmings Roll carts are $75 and the same size as your blue recyling cart (95-gallons)

Large Pile Collection

You can pay $125 per truckload for the Town to collect yard trimming piles that are larger than what would fit in a small pick-up truck.
