Lightning talks

Lightning talks will be delivered live and should be no longer than 10 minutes, with visuals or screen-sharing optional. There will be no more than 3 lightning talks for each session. Once lightning talks are delivered, all attendees will be invited to participate in a large group discussion about the theme.
If you would like to present a lightning talk, please select one of the themes below:

Day 1 Session 3 A - Collection & Curation: Discuss the unique considerations you have tackled in establishing and maintaining a zine collection.Day 1 Session 3 B - Programming: Share about the cool programs, workshops, and events you have run, focused on zines.Day 2 Session 1 A - Community Organizing: Tell us about how you are using zines to bring people together and have an impact on specific political or social causes.Day 2 Session 1 B - Teaching, Pedagogy, Instruction: We are specifically seeking an instructor using zines in the K-12 school environment to share how they approach zine pedagogy.

Panel discussions

Panel discussions will be live, conversational discussions about timely topics from a group of speakers. Each discussion will be 60 to 90 minutes in length.

Day 1 Session 2 A - Digital Zines: Discuss how you are collecting in a digital zine environment. Tell us about the unique considerations related to publishing zines in a born-digital format.Day 1 Session 4 A - Zines in Hostile Climates: From funding cuts to political pressure, people have been rallying around zines for activism and institutional resilience. Share about how you have used zines to make change or discuss the challenges you’ve been battling at your library.Day 2 Session 4 B - Disability & Access: Discuss your perspectives in collecting zines, so that more people can access the format. Share tools or actions you’ve successfully used to make zines accessible to specific readers. Share the works you have made as a disabled zinester.
What perspective do you bring to the panel discussion, in terms of the identities you inhabit and / or the work that you do? (2 - 5 sentences)
Zine Reading & Open Mic

We are looking for presenters to sign up in advance to read and / or screenshare some of the recent zines they have made on Day 2 during Session 3 A. Plan for 10 - 15 minutes of speaking time. There will also be time to present your zines on the day of the unConference if you aren’t ready to sign up at this time.

Payment

Your support ensures that ZLuC is affordable and accessible to as many people as possible--regardless of funding or affiliation. Thank you for contributing! Registration fees will support accessibility accommodations, like interpretation and translation, and technical needs. Remaining funds will be used to provide travel awards/grants for the next in-person ZLuC. In addition to your registration fee, you may choose to pay for associated transaction costs. This small additional expense will ensure that we can continue to offer easy virtual payment options without affecting our overall budget. Note: If you choose free registration, the form might show an error under this section (because there is no way to process payment information for a free registration). This will not keep you from registering–please feel free to ignore it!
