Federation of Village Halls Grant
  • Federation of Village Halls Grant

  • The Federations of Village & Community Halls operate a general grant support scheme for its member halls with funding normally received annually from Scottish Borders Council.  Currently the fund has been paused, however, for the 2025/26 financial year some Federations have unspent funds from previous years to disburse, therefore only Berwickshire, Central and Peeblesshire Federation halls are eligible to apply for this fund.

General conditions: This grant may be used towards annual insurance premiums and other running costs as well as small projects, emergency grant to keep buildings wind and water tight, for minor improvements and best practice support. Equipment purchased with this grant MAY NOT be disposed of within 5 years from the date of the award unless permission is given by the Federation.

Decisions are made by the unanimous agreement of at least 3 members of the local Federation Management Committee. The Federation Management Committee will take into account the Hall’s current financial situation.

Disclosure of Minimal Financial Assistance (MFA) Received

The Subsidy Control Act 2022 provides for a mechanism called Minimal Financial Assistance (MFA) to allow authorities to provide grants that are considered small enough to support individual business without giving them an unfair advantage.

If a subsidy is being provided under this mechanism, it will be described as a “Minimal Financial Assistance Subsidy”. Minimal Financial Assistance can be provided in a number of different ways, including:

    • A grant (this is the most common way to deliver MFA)
    • A loan
    • A guarantee
    • A free or subsidised service
    • Rates relief from local authorities
