11th Annual Plein Air Competition At the Water's Edge

All pieces must be created between January 2024 and June 2025.
Call for entries! We are pleased to announce our 11th Annual Plein Air Competition!
This year's theme, At the Water's Edge, encourages artists to focus on landscapes that involve water-lakes, rivers, oceans, and streams. Use this opportunity to demonstrate your technical ability to capture reflections, water movement, and the texture of the water.
Artists of all ages and skill-levels are invited to submit work in any medium as long as the piece meets the requirements listed below. Winners will receive cash awards: 1st place $100, 2nd place $75, and 3rd place $50 and be announced at the opening reception on September 5, 2025 6:00-8:00pm.
The Plein Air Competition will be on view at the Bountiful Davis Art Center September 5-Nov 07.
Requirements:
- Art may be created in any medium (i.e. oil, watercolor, sculpture, photography, fiber, performance, video)
- Artists may work anywhere in Utah.
- Art must be created mostly outdoors and be a depiction of that outdoor site. Artists may submit up to but no more than three pieces.
- Art must be created between the dates of Jan 1, 2024 and June 18, 2025.
- Art must be dropped-off, ready to install, with all required hanging hardware. To be compatible with our hanging system, we require that all frames have D-rings and a wire. Excessively fragile, wet, or poorly-framed work may be rejected at the discretion of BDAC staff. Due to glare and handling concerns, BDAC does not recommend framing with glass, especially for fresh oil paintings.

- Visit https://www.bdac.org/pleinair to pay the $20 registration fee for up to 3 pieces and RSVP.
- Upon payment, you will receive an email with a link to the artwork submission form. All forms will be submitted online.
