    We offer field trip/onsite workshops that take place on the farm, our offerings include:

    Travelling workshops have us come to you, offering our workshop at your choice of location. Our types of travelling workshops include:

    Below are our various types of field trip/on-site workshops.
  • Farmers for a Day

    This program takes participants on a journey from farm to plate, teaching them how fresh produce is grown, harvested, and prepared for meals. Participants will explore the farm, harvest food, and learn about food waste, the environmental impact of our food system, and practical ways to make more sustainable choices.  

     

    Earth to Table

    The "Earth to Table" program immerses participants in the journey of fresh produce from farm to plate, highlighting the impact of our food system on the environment and climate. Through hands-on activities like harvesting, tasting, and preparing food, participants will explore sustainable practices and learn ways to take action against food waste and fossil fuel dependency.

  • Please note that program materials and kits are included for the above workshops. Special requests may incur additional fees. Schools/organizations can request up to 2 topics for each 1-hour increment of their session.   

  • Travelling Workshops

    Below are our various types of travelling workshops.
  • Locally Grown

    Through activities like planting microgreens and making hand-made veggie rolls, students will explore where their food comes from, what seeds need to grow into thriving plants, and the joys of eating fresh and in season. 

     

    Zero Waste

    Dig into our worm bins and learn all about what our worm friends need to survive, how they live, and how they can turn our garbage into compost for the garden. Learn to reduce food waste through simple preservation methods like pickling and more. Optional: Build a worm bin to keep in the classroom.

     

    Native Trees

    Learn how to identify native trees by their unique characteristics, the names of trees in Anishnaabemowin, and explore how planting native trees builds our tree canopy and helps reduce carbon emissions into our atmosphere. This workshop includes planting native tree seeds to nurture at home or in the classroom.

     

    Native Bees

    Bees pollinate the fruits and vegetables we eat which is 1/3 of what we eat. Students will learn how bees build their homes, understand their roles and learn more about how Native Bees help our ecosystem thrive.

  • Please note that program materials and kits are included for the above workshops. Special requests may incur additional fees. Schools/organizations can request up to 2 topics for each 1-hour increment of their session.

  • Media Release

    Capturing photos/videos are helpful in highlighting the programs we do with your students to the community, our funders, stakeholders and for our documentation.
  • Subsidies

    Local schools and community organizations within our catchment area (M3N, M9M, M9L, M3J, M3L) or that serve within a low-income community in Toronto/York Region can receive a subsidy to cover workshop fees. Please email farmschool@blackcreekfarm.ca if you have questions about whether your group can receive a subsidy. Please note that subsidies are subject to availability.
