What are you doing with your family’s paper trail?
The primary purpose of The Historical Society of Martin County is to preserve memories and to document the development of the people, industry and governance bearing influence on the local area. This includes the natural and developmental history of Martin County and its previous associations.
We are actively seeking photographs, advertisements, legal documents and letters from members of the community that have ties to the History of Martin County. We want to tell your stories!
If you have old photos and you can identify people within the photo, we want to see them! If you have old letters between relatives that mention goings on here in Martin County, we want to read them! The inner workings of everyday lives are so important to provide context when researching history and often the tiniest detail provides insight to larger questions.
We urge you to copy the documents that you would like to share with us, print the attached. Please fill out the donor's information at the bottom of this sheet and return this sheet with your photographs.
Mark each photograph with:
- the names of each person in photo
- indicate where each person is in photo
- indicate location and date photo was taken
If you mark on the back of the photograph, use pencil NOT ink or marker as both can bleed through, and fade in time. A typewritten list (Word, Excel, or in this form below) identifying each photo and the corresponding information is preferred for proper processing.
Your photographs will NOT be returned to you.
If you do not wish to donate original photographs, duplicate prints (NOT photocopies) of photographs are just as valuable to our archives.
