Our Mission
Women in Neuroscience (WiN) is a nonprofit with a mission to empower students from under-resourced and underserved communities to pursue research and leadership pathways in neuroscience fields, ultimately contributing to advancing scientific innovation and improved health outcomes. Our approach centers around providing students with opportunities to develop relevant hard and soft skills, connect to like-minded peers and professionals, and realize their potential.
Goal
To provide interns with practical, hands-on experience for understanding neuroscience research, developing a range of skills, fostering professional networking and mentorship, exploring neuroscience career paths, and contributing to ongoing research projects.
Your Role as Research of Clinical Host
During the 10-week summer internship, hosts are responsible for their interns' research or clinical experience. Through hands-on learning you will teach your intern scientific or clinical skills, deepen his/her/their understanding of your work, and strengthen his/her/their ability to work independently and in a team.
We also ask you to be open to learning with them, viewing any potential differences as opportunities to broaden your perspective and even grow your leadership.
Requirements
- Be in town for all or significant majority of the 10-week period
- Select the intern(s) from the pool of accepted applicants, if you so desire
- Assist with all onboarding tasks including holding an introductory meeting with intern(s) prior to the start date.
- Provide your interns with a minimum of 32 hours per week of research or clinical work that includes professional mentoring
- Attend the kickoff event and final presentation event, if able
- Meet with our team for a mid-term check-in and post-internship debrief
- Complete a post-internship survey
- Have at least 1 consistent point of contact for your interns throughout the summer (you or someone else)
What You'll Get
By joining WiN and our mission, you will belong to a community that can provide life-long networking and support for the members. You will get a strong contributor to your research or clinical efforts. All interns are accepted into this program because they display a deep curiosity in the neuroscience fields, critical thinking and insightfulness, and a disposition to learn.
