Our Mission
Women in Neuroscience (WiN) is a nonprofit with a mission to empower students from under-resourced and underserved communities to pursue research and leadership pathways in neuroscience fields, ultimately contributing to advancing scientific innovation and improved health outcomes. Our approach centers around providing students with opportunities to develop relevant hard and soft skills, connect to like-minded peers and professionals, and realize their potential.
Goal
To assist interns and alumni in deepening their knowledge and understanding of how their research experience can inform and bolster their educational and career goals.
Your Role as a Mentor
Mentors play a crucial role in offering guidance and support during the internship program and throughout the educational and career journeys of interns and alumni. You will provide essential tools and resources, answer questions, address concerns, and assist in connecting interns and alumni with fellow students and professionals.
We also ask you to be open to learning with them, viewing any potential differences as opportunities to broaden your perspective and even grow your leadership. A collaborative environment encourages mutual respect and understanding, ultimately contributing to personal and career advancement.
Requirements
For internship program
- Meet at least 1 hour either weekly or bi-weekly
- Complete mentor meeting survey for each meeting
- Give interns time to complete their mentoring survey for each meeting
For alumni
- Meeting frequency and length will be determined together
- Provide summary of meetings
