Thank you for your interest in the McColl Center Exhibition Fellowship.
This six-month fellowship supports emerging Charlotte-based artists with communal studio space, a $1,000 stipend, access to McColl Center’s fully equipped labs (including Printmaking, Media, Welding, Ceramics, Woodshop, 3D printer, and laser cutter), and hands-on support from lab coordinators. Fellows will also receive mentorship from a professional artist and participate in career development opportunities, including studio visits with curators and arts professionals, and free access to McColl Center’s Beyond the Studio Series workshops. The program culminates in a group exhibition in March 2026, curated by Carla Aaron-Lopez.
Fellows are expected to fully engage in the program, including regular studio visits, community feedback sessions, writing activities related to their exhibition work, and dedicated time for focused studio practice. While the timeline is evolving and will be shaped in collaboration with selected artists, applicants should anticipate a steady commitment from August 2025 through March 2026, with a winter break in December.
Six artists will be selected for the 2025–26 cohort.
Applicants must reside in the Charlotte metro area, as housing is not provided, and may not be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the fellowship period.
We value creative, cultural, and social diversity in our selection process and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. Applicants will be notified by the first week of August.
Applications are open from June 24 through July 18 at 11:59 PM.
