Monitor daily feeding behaviour (during and after feeding for floating /sinking pellets, gulping, flashing or sluggish swimming, discoloured gills, excess mucous over body)
Remove uneaten food within 15-20 minutes
Track feeding trends using a feed log
Clean pond before winter (if build up is heavy)
Remove sludge, leaves, organic debris weekly
Monitor daily for sudden temperature drop (turnover risk)
Monitor animal behaviour: gasping, clustering, surfacing (turnover risk)
Perform DO readings at the surface, middle depth, and pond bottom weekly
Perform temperature readings at the surface, middle depth, and pond bottom weekly
Have aeration or water movement plans in place before turnover
Hydrogen sulphide risk : avoid disturbing deep sediment (e.g. gentle aeration near bottom zones)
Hydrogen sulphide risk : test if animals show sudden stress after turnover
Hydrogen sulphide risk : apply oxidising agents only under vet supervision if suspected /confirmed.
Ensure a backup power supply is available
Assess biosecurity protocols and close any gaps
Assess SOPs and address any gaps before winter season
Test aeration systems : 30-minute system test and verify air output at multiple pond depths
Ensure aeration systems are regularly serviced
