Conduct comprehensive health screenings
Feed gradually with immune boosting diets (vitamin C, E, and β-glucans) (~10% increase every 3-5 days as appetite increases)
Test ammonia and nitrites more frequently (twice weekly) (NH₃ < 0.1 mg/L and NO₂⁻ < 0.5 mg/L)
Perform 10-20% water change with conditioned water if ammonia / nitrites rise
Test pH more frequently (daily) (usually 6.5–8.5)
Test aeration systems : 30-minute system test and verify air output at multiple pond depths
Ensure aeration systems are serviced as necessary
Ensure a backup power supply is available
Quarantine (average 14-21 days) and screen new stock
Assess biosecurity protocols and close any gaps
Assess SOPs and address any gaps
Calibrate and check all water testing kits
Clear debris and assess pond /tank hygiene (removal of winter detritus)
Train staff on early warning signs
