Call for Walls: Mural Opportunities
The St. Johns Cultural Council presents an opportunity for local businesses or building owners to donate their walls to the arts.
Visual arts inspire community growth, connect people, and bring economic growth to areas it blossoms around. We are looking for local businesses willing to donate their walls for visual expressions that are inspired by St. Johns County.
Submissions are on a rolling basis projects are subject to approval of budgets and subject to change. We ask that the area in front of the wall be unobstructed, and the surface of the wall be prepped already or the owners be willing to prep the wall in the event of a mural. * No private residences will be eligible at this time.
BENEFITS:
-The selected businesses/owners will receive the same acknowledgment and recognition as any other mural sponsor would.
-The Cultural Council will publish the business logo (if applicable) on the mural sponsorship page and the chosen name will appear in the artwork description on the historiccoastculture.com public art database.
-A vibrant work of art outside their business or vacant building, an increased positive flow of visitors in your area, and the satisfaction of knowing you helped make your community beautiful and welcoming.
GUIDELINES:
Submit at least two photos of the wall including a close-up of the walls condition.
Walls MUST be located inside St. Johns County, Florida, you may submit, with the following requirements in mind:
Link to image files stored online (DropBox, Google Drive, etc.) or emailed to us using a file transfer service like WeTransfer:
- JPG, JPEG, or PNG formats
- 1200px or more on the longest side, up to 5 MB in size. With a minimum of 750KB or larger at 300 dpi
-Image file must include the business name and address.

To ensure we receive all submitted images and that they maintain quality, please do not attach images in an email message or as a Word document. If there is a vision for what you would like on the wall you may provide that information.
The decision of artist selection is at the discretion of the St. Johns Cultural Council and will be selected from an open call to artists. Sponsors may provide input for themes, styles, and overall size, and can take part in the approval of the proposal process if they would like to be a part of the project’s public art committee.
This call for entries is for building a bank to utilize as projects become available; entrants are not guaranteed a mural or online acknowledgment by submitting an entry.
Submit your images via jotform, indicating “Business or Building Name: [Address]” in the subject line. The body of the email must include:
-Best point of contact name, Telephone number, wall address
-Your website and social media profiles (if applicable)
The St. Johns Cultural Council reserves the right to make final decisions on all submissions. The Cultural Council will attribute the name of the business whenever images of the artwork are listed with sponsorships for print and/or digital promotion. The artist grants permission for the St. Johns Cultural Council to use the submitted images for a call for artists and scope of work documents.
Selected artists must sign an authorization of mural donation and a waiver of liability agreement before the building can be used in a mural project.
The St. Johns Cultural Council will archive all murals electronically, allowing the promotion of the artworks for viewing public. In case of a sale of the building, damage to the building, or painting over of the mural, the business/owners will promptly contact the St. Johns Cultural Council.
Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis. Initial review will be complete within three weeks of submission date.
