Ballet exams are held in November.
This Assessment Chart is designed to provide valuable feedback for both students and parents, helping to track development throughout the year.
Our school follows the AICD Borovansky syllabus, a nationally recognised curriculum known for its high standards. Because of this, only students who are fully prepared and demonstrating a strong likelihood of success will be entered for the exam.
Factors That May Influence a Student’s Progress in Ballet:
1. Previous Experience and Training:
Early Training: Students who began ballet at a young age often have a stronger foundation in technique, body awareness, and discipline.
New to Ballet: Students who start later may need more time to develop skills and strength, which can affect their rate of progress.
2. Exposure to Other Dance Styles:
Limited to Ballet Only: Students who focus solely on ballet may lack the versatility and adaptability that come from experiencing other styles.
Cross-Training in Other Styles: Exposure to different styles like PBT, IDT, Troupe or Acro can improve coordination, musicality, expression and overall movement quality, which can enhance ballet performance as well.
3. Frequency and Consistency of Training:
Regular, consistent practice leads to faster improvement, while irregular attendance or long breaks can slow progress.
4. Physical Abilities and Natural Facility:
Factors such as flexibility, turnout, and strength can influence how easily a student progresses in ballet technique.
5. Motivation and Work Ethic:
A student’s attitude, determination, and willingness to accept corrections are key contributors to progress.
6. Home practice:
A student who knows the syllabus and practices will improve faster and be confident in an exam situation where they can't follow others.
For the students who are not quite ready to do their exam, they may choose between the 2 options below:
Option 1: Continue Ballet Training Without Sitting the Exam
Students may choose not to enter the exam and instead continue their ballet training for technique, enjoyment, posture, strength, and the many other physical and mental benefits that regular ballet classes provide.
Option 2: Work Towards Entering the Exam
Students that need additional support can access private tuition to further develop their technique and build confidence, ensuring they are fully prepared.
Our priority is to ensure every student enjoys a positive and rewarding ballet experience, whether or not they choose to complete the exam.
