  • Garry Oak Nature Walk Registration

  • Join us for a guided walk through the Vanier Garry oak groves, a unique natural area tucked into the heart of Courtenay. Beginning at the large Garry oak near the Sports Centre parking lot, we’ll follow a loop that winds through nearby oak groves, meanders into Vanier Nature Park, and leads us to a restoration site where Comox Valley Nature and the City of Courtenay are working together to protect this rare ecosystem.

    This walk is hosted by Comox Valley Nature and will be guided by Karen Cummins, who has a background in horticulture and arboriculture and has been helping with the Vanier project since 2020, and Eloise Holland, an enthusiastic amateur naturalist who has been involved in habitat restoration projects for many years.

    Along the way, we’ll explore the cultural and ecological importance of the Garry oak habitat and learn how you can get involved in ongoing efforts to support local biodiversity.

  • Meeting Location:

    Meet at the large Garry oak tree located at the south end of the Comox Valley Sports Centre parking lot (3001 Vanier Dr.) (map)

    • This walk will proceed rain or shine, so please come prepared for the weather
    • No dog
    • Please arrive on time
    • Bring your curiosity and questions!
