Child Guidance Resource Centers (CGRC) is approved by the American Psychological Association, National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc., the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education (ACT 48 and PQAS) to award continuing education credits to eligible participants.
Description: This training will equip behavioral health professionals with trauma-informed tools to help teens recognize and break free from toxic dating relationships. Participants will explore the intersection of adolescent brain development and decision-making, emotional regulation and boundary setting. The course will also provide guidance on safety planning for high-risk situations. Clinicians will leave with actionable skills to foster resilience and relational health in the teens they serve.
Course Format: This 2-hour course will be held on-line via Zoom and will include a PowerPoint Presentation and training activities to apply practical strategies to clinical practice.
Course Objectives: This course is intended to enable participants to:
- Understand Adolescent Brain Development – Examine how teen brain development influences decision-making, emotional regulation, and relationship dynamics, particularly in the context of toxic relationships.
- Identify Abusive Peer Dynamics – Recognize the signs of unhealthy relationships, peer pressure, and abusive dating relationships, including the role of social media in shaping adolescent experiences.
- Apply Somatic and Trauma-Informed Approaches – Utilize somatic-based techniques to empower teens to develop emotional awareness, regulate their nervous system, and establish healthy boundaries in relationships.
- Implement Safety Planning and Resilience Strategies – Equip teens with tools to safely disengage from toxic relationships, strengthen self-advocacy skills, and cultivate positive peer connections for long-term emotional well-being.
