Ages: Year Levels 7 - 13
When: Thursday 23rd October 2024, 9-9.30am practice, 10am competition begins.
Where: North End of Showcase Hall
Fees: A small fee of $5 per entry.
Prizes: Sashes, certificates and gift vouchers/cash will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings in each class, there will also be overall prizes awarded for the best upcycled garment, and the best garment made with natural fibres. The winning school overall will receive a prize. And a special thank you to Brother for donating a sewing machine for this competition which will be awarded at the Show.
Overall Awards:
- Best Upcycled Garment - Any entry that uses at least 80% of pre-loved materials. Photos of the pre-loved materials used, before they have been manipulated, must accompany to be eligible. Awarded to the entry that, in the judges opinion, upcycles material in any of the following ways [Wide range of materials used, materials have been used innovatively and creatively, The outcome shows originality and/or the outcome has a wow factor] - winner receives $50.00 gift voucher/cash
- Best Garment made with Natural Fibres (With a Preference for Wool) - The entry must be made of at least 80% of any natural fibre, or combination of natural fibres. Commercial fabric, knitting, crochet, macrame or a combination may be used - winner receives $50.00 gift voucher/cash
- Overall Winning School - Each 1st, 2nd and 3rd placing will incurr 3, 2 or 1 points respectivley, to their School's Score. The School with the highest total score at the end of the Showcase will be the crowned the overall winner - receives a voucher to the value of a Bernette sewing machine
Each entry will receive a complimentary ticket to attend the HB A&P Show.
The Brother Design, Make & Model Showcase encourages students to enter their wearable and handcrafted creations which they have skilfully designed and assembled over the year into various competition classes. Judging of the garment on its own will take place prior to the Show and the modelling of the garment will be judged during the catwalk. These scores will be collated and the entrant with the highest total marks in each class will win 1st place within that class. Come and get your strut on to show off your creative fashion sense.
You can register online from 1st August. Entries close on the 12th of September.
Entries will need to be delivered on Friday 12th or Monday 15th of September between 9am-4pm to the A&P Society Office at the Foodeast Hub, 4 Hanui Road, Tomoana, Hastings 4172. Late entries will not be accepted. Construction Judging will take place prior to the Show on Tuesday 16th of September.
Extension of the closing date for the Handcraft section of this competition. The new closing date for the Handcraft class will be the 6th October with all designs to be brought into the Showgrounds Exhibition Hall on the 13th October for judging on the 14th October. (If it suits better these designs can still be dropped off at the same time as the other Design Make and Model designs (12th September and 15th September).
If insufficient entries are received classes may be combined.
Judging Criteria:
- Complexity of skills used
- Quality of construction skills and overall finish
- Choice of fabric for appropriate style
- Overall presentation of garment
- Originality and/or innovation in style, fabric and design
