  • Purpose
    Leadership Northland, a program of the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce, is an intensive program devoted to strengthening and educating area business and community professionals. Each session examines some of the key themes and issues surrounding our community. Leadership Northland participants are provided opportunities to explore and strengthen personal leadership competencies. Upon completion of the program, graduates will have developed a keen sense of awareness about community issues and will have increased their motivation to assume community involvement positions. Sessions are at various sites throughout the region, focusing on specific aspects of the Northland, greater Kansas City area and the state of Missouri
    Goals
    • Introduce and develop ongoing communications among emerging and established leaders
    • Explore concepts of leadership and leadership techniques
    • Increase awareness & encourage involvement in the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce committees and programs

    Session Topics
    Leadership Team Building, Non-Profit, City and County Government, Education, Planning & Development, Healthcare, Legislative, and Law Enforcement Applicant Expectations
    • Desire for engaging in community service
    • Prior volunteer and leadership involvement
    • Interest in involvement and understanding of the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce
    • Demonstrates eagerness for additional leadership and professional growth

    Program Information
    • Tuition for the nine-month program is $1,100 for Northland Chamber members and $1,450 for non-Chamber members. Tuition is payable by the individual, employer, or sponsoring organization. Class participants will be chosen by the Leadership Committee, invoiced at that time and paid in full by October 14. Tuition is non-refundable once the program begins
    • One ½ price scholarship will be given per year (Applicants must state reason in SCHOLARSHIP section on page 4*)
    • All program materials, meals at sessions, kickoff dinner, graduation dinner, hotel accommodations and Amtrak ticket for Jefferson City is provided for each participant
    • Please consider the following physical activities in this program: several sessions will require a lot of walking, both indoor and outdoor, on hills, rough terrain, and hard surfaces. Climbing stairs is also needed if an elevator is unavailable. The Team Building and Non-Profit sessions will include moderate physical activities as well.
    • Please complete the online application by August 15, 2025. Notification will be emailed by August 29, 2025

  • Program Session Information
    Sessions are the third Thursday of each month, except for the April Session, which will be an overnight train ride to Jefferson City. Attendance is required for six full days of the eight sessions to graduate from the program. All times missed (partial day, half day, etc.) will be accumulated towards time missed. Each session is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a social time with the class. The social gatherings are an essential part of the program to connect with your class. Session locations will be emailed prior to each session

    Class Elected Positions
    • The Social Chair arranges social gatherings, networking, and communications with class participants during the program and after grauation. The class will elect the class Social Chair during the social hour at the end of Session 2

    • The Class President will work with the Social Chair representing the class at Chamber speaking engagements and graduation. The class will elect the Class President at the end of Session 3

    Community Service Project
    The Community Service Project will be determined by the class and lead by the Class President and Social Chair

    Committee Meetings
    • Each class member must attend three different Chamber committee meetings (Planning & Development, Parks & Recreation, Legislative, Education, or Ambassador)

    • Meeting must be complete by Thursday, February 19th. After completing these committee meetings, you will choose at least one committee to remain active in within the chamber

    • Meetings are listed in the monthly and weekly newsletter, and on the Chamber website, www.northlandchamber.com

    • Each person will be responsible for their lunch check at the Legislative and Ambassador Luncheon

    After Hours
    • Each class member must attend one After Hours

    • After Hours are held on the first Wednesday of the month, from 5 to 7 p.m. at various Chamber member locations. Check the Chamber website for dates and locations

     

    Monthly Luncheons
    • Each class member must attend one Monthly Luncheon

    • These are held on the third Tuesday of every month at
    11:30 a.m. at various Chamber member locations

    Annual Banquet, Auction, Golf Tournament
    • Participants are required to help with the Annual Banquet & Auction. The class is required to participate and help plan the Annual Golf Tournament 
    • Annual Banquet & Auction will be held November 12, 2025
    • Golf Tournament will be held in July 2026

    Excellence in Education Banquet
    • Participants are required to participate in judging nominations and scholarship applications for the Excellence in Education Banquet for a couple hours during the date blocks below

    If accepted into the Leadership Northland program, you or your sponsor will be billed for the $1,100 ($1,450 for non-members) tuition fee that covers all materials for each session, Better Humans fee, meals and refreshments at session, dinner at kick-off and graduation, and overnight accommodations and Amtrak ticket to Jefferson City, Missouri.
