Dear President Trump,
As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary in 2026, we the undersigned respectfully urge you to lead a national initiative that revives the historic spirit of the Victory Garden movement—reimagined for today’s greatest challenges in health, food, and national resilience.
During World War II, more than 20 million Americans planted Victory Gardens, producing nearly 40% of the nation’s produce at the height of the war. The movement was widely supported and promoted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, with coordinated efforts by other governmental and non-governmental organizations, including the Office of Civilian Defense and the National Victory Garden Institute. It wasn’t just about food—it was about unity, self-reliance, sovereignty, and doing our part for the country. These gardens, often planted by women, children, seniors, and the disabled, stood as symbols of patriotism, resourcefulness, and hope.
Today, we face a different kind of crisis: an epidemic of chronic illness, rising food insecurity, and widespread disconnection from our land and one another. But just like before, the solution starts with a seed—and with the people who feed this nation every single day.
It’s time to put Farmers First. America First. And Our Health First.
We respectfully urge you to lead a national call to action by:
Launching a modern Victory Garden campaign in collaboration with federal agencies, encouraging backyard, school, church and community gardening to improve public health, nutrition, food sovereignty, and self-sufficiency.
Championing small farmers, ranchers, and dairymen as essential to national health and resilience—elevating them in federal messaging as the frontline leaders of American well-being.
Issuing a Presidential Proclamation calling on all Americans to plant a Victory Garden in honor of the country’s 250th birthday, dedicated to their family’s health, their community’s strength, or an American hero of their choosing.
Establishing a “Farmer’s Hero” recognition campaign, spotlighting local producers across all 50 states as stewards of our land and leaders in the fight for a healthier nation.
Directing federal departments (USDA, HHS, VA, Education) to promote gardens, nutrition education, and local food sourcing as part of public wellness initiatives—especially in schools, military facilities, and underserved communities.
Encouraging the use of public properties—including parks, VA campuses, and government buildings—for demonstration gardens and citizen engagement in gardening and food literacy.
Fostering national unity by inviting communities, churches, schools, and veterans’ organizations to take part in this shared act of renewal—reconnecting Americans to the land, to one another, and to our founding values.
As cultural attention shifts away from celebrity and entertainment toward substance and survival, we believe the time has come to celebrate those who truly serve: the ones who grow, tend, and feed.
Let’s make farmers visible again. Let’s make health our culture. Let’s plant something that matters.
This movement honors the spirit of First Lady Melania Trump’s Be Best campaign, uplifting the health, well-being, and character of our youth through positive and purposeful action. We are planting for their future.
On the 250th birthday of the United States, let us honor the Greatest Generation by learning from their example—rebuilding a nation rooted in self-sufficiency, local stewardship, and shared sacrifice.
Because when we honor our farmers, we honor our country. And when we grow food, we grow freedom.
Farmers First. America First. Our Health First.
Let’s Make America Healthy Again—together.
