Presented by Mike and Jeanne Cassidy.
Join us for an illustrated presentation about the remarkable story of the Patriot Daughters of Lancaster, a Ladies Aid Society that served from 1861 to 1865 and continued to honor veterans for years after the war. Featuring authentic period photographs, documents, and artifacts, the program is narrated by Mike and Jeanne Cassidy in Civil War–period dress. Through dramatic readings from eyewitness accounts, letters, and newspaper articles, they bring to life the voices and experiences of Lancaster’s women on the home front.
Formed at the outbreak of the Civil War, the Patriot Daughters of Lancaster initially organized to meet the needs of local soldiers and regiments departing for service. Their work soon grew to encompass the entire region, coordinating efforts among some 16 local aid societies across Lancaster County. The group became a lifeline for Union hospitals and field units—most notably sending nurses and vital supplies to Gettysburg in the immediate aftermath of the battle.
This presentation offers a vivid glimpse into the compassion, organization, and patriotism of Lancaster’s women during one of America’s most challenging eras, highlighting their enduring legacy of service and remembrance.
Due to limited seating, RSVP required.
This presentation is a joint program of the Centre County Historical Society and the Central Pennsylvania Civil War Round Table. Light refreshments will be available after the program in the first floor period rooms and guests can enjoy the decorated Mansion.
