Swim Ability

This is a club safety requirement to ensure all paddlers are safe in the water.
Can you confidently swim at least 400 metres and float plus tread water for 5 minutes unassisted?*

Sunset Bay OCC welcomes paddlers of all levels, whether you’re here to compete or just enjoy the social and fitness side of outrigger canoeing. For everyone’s safety, all members are required to complete a Huli (capsize) drill. This ensures you know what to do if a canoe flips and that you can return to the boat safely. Your safety, and the safety of your crew, always comes first.
I confirm the medical information I have provided is true and complete to the best of my knowledge. I agree to notify the club if my medical condition changes or if I develop any health issue that may affect my safe participation.
I understand that all paddlers must complete a Huli (capsize) drill to demonstrate safety readiness. Participation is at my own risk, and if I fail to disclose a relevant condition, the club is released from liability.

Personal OC1 and OC2 Storage Application
Sunset Bay Outrigger Canoe Club offers limited OC1/OC2 storage at our club shed.

Storage is available by request and subject to:
✅ Committee approval
✅ Proof of current insurance
✅ Agreement to club safety procedures

All paddlers must:
✅ Wear a leg rope and personal flotation device (PFD)
✅ Carry a mobile phone in a waterproof case or an EPIRB/PLB
✅ Carry a spare paddle
✅ Inform someone of your intended route and expected return time
✅ Store your canoe safely, securely, and respectfully

✅ Logging my paddle using the SafeTrx app whenever possible

⚠️ Storage is at your own risk. Sunset Bay OCC accepts no responsibility for loss, theft, or damage to privately stored craft.

⚠️ I understand these safety practices are required for storage approval and are for my own protection on the water.

📍Safety Tracking with SafeTrx:
Our club uses SafeTrx to log session locations and support on-water safety.
We strongly recommend that all OC1/OC2 paddlers download and use the SafeTrx app before heading out solo.

Members Declaration
For full transparency and easy access, all club governance, safety, and conduct guidelines are available via the Sunset Bay OCC website.

Members are expected to review these documents and be familiar with their contents before participating in club activities.

AOCRA Membership & Indemnity Acknowledgement*

I acknowledge that I am required to be a current AOCRA member to participate in club paddling activities. I have read and understood the AOCRA Indemnity & Release, and I agree to release and forever hold harmless the Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association Ltd, Sunset Bay Outrigger Canoe Club Inc., and their officers, committee members, employees, instructors, agents, volunteers, and members from any liability, suit, or claim — including negligence — to the fullest extent permitted by law. I understand that paddling involves inherent risks, and it is my responsibility to ensure I am physically fit and able to participate safely in all club activities.
