    For an outstanding artwork by an Australian student working with a landscape theme in their visual art practice.

    Artists can enter artworks completed in the past 2 years.

    Presented by University of Tasmania; Hadley’s Orient Hotel; Hadley’s Art Prize, Hobart (HAPH); and Art Education Australia (AEA), the prize includes:

    • $500 towards art supplies presented by the University of Tasmania to be redeemed in the State/Territory where the student resides
    • The opportunity for the winning student’s artwork to be exhibited at Hadley’s Orient Hotel
    • A visit to the UTAS Fine Arts and Design campus at Hunter Street, or the chance to have a virtual meeting with one of the Fine Arts lecturers
    • A copy of the Hadley’s Art Prize exhibition catalogue

    This prize is judged by art education experts at the University of Tasmania (UTAS) and Art Education Australia (AEA). Judges will consider the Entry’s creativity and technical skill, seeking work that is imaginative or profound in its response to contemporary art themes with a high level of conceptual and practical resolution.

     

    Eligibility:

    • Currently enrolled students in Year 10, 11 and 12, TAFE/VET, University or other higher education who are residents of Australia and under the age of 20 years of age.
    • Entrants must be at least 16 years old.
    • Entrants under 18 years old must have their parent’s or legal guardian’s consent to enter this Prize, and we may award any prizes to the Entrant’s parent(s) or legal guardian in our sole discretion.

  • Conditions of Entry

    1. The competition commences 21 July 2025 and closes 10 September 2025. Late entries cannot be accepted.
    2. Currently enrolled students in Year 10, 11 and 12, TAFE/VET, University or other higher education who are residents of Australia and under the age of 20 years of age. If the Entrant is under 18 years old, they must have their parent’s or guardian’s consent to enter this Prize, and we may award any prizes to the Entrant’s legal guardian in our sole discretion.
    3. The $500 prize presented by the University of Tasmania is to be entirely spent in the purchase of art supplies and cannot be redeemed for cash. 
    4. The judges' decision is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.
    5. If there is an unclaimed prize or invalid entry, we may in our discretion assign the Prize to the Entry judged the next best, conduct a further judging to award the prize, or withdraw the prize unawarded. We are under no obligation to award any unclaimed prize.
    6. There will be one Prize winner. Honourable mentions will also be noted for up to three other Entries.
    7. The Prize is not transferrable.
    8. In entering this Prize, the Entrant agrees that their Entry is based on the Entrant’s original ideas and that the Entrant has not plagiarised or adapted the creative/intellectual property of another student / artist / internet image without their awareness, acknowledgment and permission.
    9. Use of artwork and images:
    10. By entering this competition and accepting the conditions of entry, entrants grant Hadley’s Orient Hotel, Art Education Australia and University of Tasmania non-exclusive rights to reproduce the images entered in digital and material form for purposes relating to the Hadley’s Art Prize, including marketing, publicity, educational and publication uses in perpetuity.
    11. The name of the student will be attributed when their entered images are used.
    12. Students will not receive any fee for such reproductions of entered images.
    13. The winning student will be notified by email. 
    14. Personal information collected as a consequence of entry into the prize will only be used for the purposes of the administration, publication and promotion of the Prize. Personal information will not be supplied to any unrelated third party.
    15. To the extent permitted by law, neither us nor our Affiliates will be liable for damages of any kind (including under contract, tort or negligence), arising out of or in connection with this Prize.
    16. If the Entrant doesn’t comply with these Terms, the Entrant may be disqualified. We reserve the right to add, withdraw, reschedule, vary or substitute Prizes.
    17. We may cancel, stop, postpone or suspend this Prize at any time if an unforeseen incident occurs, which affects, or has the potential to affect, the safety, integrity or fairness of the Prize, or if the Prize is otherwise not able to be run as planned.
    18. We reserve the right to change these Terms, or otherwise modify the Prize, at any time without prior notice in our sole discretion.
