    GUIDELINES FOR THE VFW DEPARTMENT OF COLORADO ~ VETERANS TRUST FUND GRANT

    Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Colorado is a Grantor of the Colorado Veterans Trust Fund grant, is established to provide financial assistance to worthy Colorado Veterans of the United States Armed Forces, who have insufficient financial resources to meet a critical or emergency need for shelter, utilities, and/or health care.

    Application Procedure: Any eligible person (or someone on behalf of an eligible person) may apply for a grant of funds under this program. Application forms are available from Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Colorado and may be requested by visiting www.vfwco.org/index.php/home/grants

    Use of Grant Fund: Grants will be made to eligible person for the purpose of meeting an essential basic need for shelter, utilities and/or health care. Grants will not be made for items that are discretionary in nature ("wants"). The grant will be paid to a bill/invoice, we are NOT able to give money directly to the individual.

    Limitations: Initially, grant application will not be approved for more than $2,000 effective 12/1/2024.

    Grants will usually not be approve for the same veteran more than once in a lifetime. (A waiver may be considered in the case of a severe emergency.)

    Grants will not be approve to help an eligible person on a continuing basis, e.g. rent, home payments, car loans, long-term illnesses, custodial care, chronic presciption drugs.

    The Fund is unable to assume the total responsibility for a veteran's major medical bills or funeral expenses.

    Funds for hotel stays are limited to 1 week.

    Proof of Eligibility:
    The burden of proof for eligibility rests with the applicant seeking assistance from the Fund. To be considered eligible, the applicant must provide a DD-214 ONLY. No other documentation will be accepted at this time.

    Eligibility is limited to individuals with an Honorable Discharge from the United States Armed Forces. We do not accept discharges categorized as Under Honorable Conditions, General, or any other status.

    Active Duty military personnel are not eligible for assistance under this policy.

    We reserve the right to refuse service for any reason specifically physical or verbal abuse or abuse of services.
