  • ORBIT Community Agreements

To participate in ORBIT Youth Space, all youth, staff and volunteers must follow the following Community Agreements. As a participant of ORBIT Drop-in, activities, and other events, you are agreeing to:
  • ORBIT Youth Space Community Agreements:

    1. No Harassment: Identity Respect is our #1 agreement here at ORBIT. ORBIT does not tolerate any form of harassment, including but not limited to: sexist, racist, ableist, transphobic, homophobic, classist, xenophobic or other hateful language or actions, bullying, or threats of violence of any kind.

    2. Stick to Friendship Mode here - please no PDA (Public Displays of Affection) at ORBIT - it can make people feel uncomfortable and that doesn’t make for an inclusive space!

    3. Expand beyond your cliques! Please do your best to include others

    4. Culture of Consent - Ask people before you do things that affect the group or them. Respect people’s answers and don’t pressure them to get the answer you want.

    5. Think before sharing - Try to keep sharing general, ask for consent, or avoid details that aren’t yours to share when talking about subjects or experiences that might be triggering for others.

    6. Sex Ed Resources and ORBIT boundaries: ORBIT believes young people should have access to accurate information, education and resources on sexual health to make decisions that work best and safest for them while respecting our non-PDA and inclusion rules. Youth have access to condoms and evidence-based comprehensive sexual health books at ORBIT, and still must stick to our No PDA rule while here

    7. ORBIT is a Substance-Free Zone - Drugs and/or alcohol or use of either are not allowed at ORBIT Youth Space. If you are in need of support or resources around substance abuse, please reach out to staff to connect you with support on Vashon.

    8. ORBIT Staff and Community Volunteers are mandated reporters - All ORBIT staff, adult community volunteers, and Open Space staff are Mandated Reporters. This means that if a staff/volunteer hears or has cause to believe a youth has experienced abuse or neglect, they legally must report this to law enforcement.

    9. Take care of our space - Our programming is 100% free for youth, and helping staff tend to our space is how you can give back! This looks like:

    a. Help staff set-up activities, supplies; take care of furniture, supplies,  equipment
    b. CLEAN UP before you leave - both your individual mess and general stuff!
    c. ORBIT is not a gym! Please do not run around, throw things, or any other stuff that could interfere with the space for others!

    11. Coming & Going @ ORBIT:

    a. Sign-in and sign-out each time you attend an ORBIT Drop-in or event!
    b. While at ORBIT, youth need to stay inside the building.
    c. Want to leave then come right back? Sorry! Unless you are heading over to UMO, we don’t allow coming and going during Drop-in Hours!

  • All youth, staff, volunteers and community members are expected to follow these agreements while at ORBIT Youth Space. Failure to follow our agreements may result in needing to take a break from ORBIT for the day or a longer period if staff deems it necessary.

By signing below, you are acknowledging that you read and agree to follow ORBIT’s Community Agreements, and will participate in ORBIT’s mission to build community through creativity and inclusivity.
