      Importance of Licensing Your Dog

Licensing your pet offers several benefits for our community, including:

    - A license tag helps reunite you with your pet if they get lost.

    - In the event of a dog bite, we can quickly verify the rabies vaccination status of any dog licensed in the county.

-- If your pet has an emergency, a license tag allows us to contact you rapidly regarding medical attention.

Yamhill County Dog Control relies on funds from licensing fees, redemption fees, and donations. Our goal is to ensure all dogs in the county are licensed, as state law requires it.

    **Important Notes:**

    • If you are licensing a spayed or neutered dog, you must provide written proof of alteration from a veterinarian, which is typically included with your rabies vaccination document.

    • To qualify for a senior discount, proof of the owner's age is required for licensing at the senior rate.

    • If your current rabies certificate expires in less than 364 days, please contact Licensing at 503-472-0341, ext. 4, or email licensing@HBPets.org for a prorated dog license.

Your online application will be reviewed and processed by Dog Control Licensing staff in the order it is received. If you owe any additional fees (e.g., late fees) or if further information is needed, we will reach out to you using the contact information provided with your registration.

  • 4.05.05.04 License Fee.
    f) A license fee is not required for any dog that is an “assistance animal.” For purposes of this section, “assistance animal” means a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual (see ORS 659A.143 and OAR 839-006-0345). A license shall be issued for a dog that is an assistance animal upon proof of rabies vaccination (unless lawfully exempt) and filing of a certificate of training and/or medical affidavit from the dog owner or keeper showing that the dog lawfully qualifies as an assistance animal.
