EARTH Healthcare Sustainability Quality Improvement Program 2025/2026 Application Form
Thank you for your interest in the EARTH Healthcare Sustainability Quality Improvement (QI) program. Applications for the 25-26 cohort are due Sunday, Sept 28th, 2025 at 11:59 PM EST.
What is EARTH?
Environmental Action by Residents and Trainees for Health (EARTH) is a national community of practice of medical student and resident physician teams advancing healthcare sustainability across Canada. As part of our mandate, we coordinate an EARTH Healthcare Sustainability QI program for which medical trainees (medical students and resident physicians) can apply to join through the funding stream or discovery stream. This QI program represents the merger between the Project Green Healthcare/Projet Vert La Santé (PGH/PVLS) program that engaged medical students and the Trainee-Led Research and Audit for Sustainable Healthcare Canada (TRASH-Can) program hat engaged residents. In the funding stream, selected trainee teams will receive up to $500 in reimbursable funding (additional funds may be requested for if there are program funds available and a new budget with rationale is submitted for consideration) and mentorship from physician and healthcare administrator healthcare sustainability leaders through the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) and the Canadian Coalition for Green Healthcare (CCGHC) to execute a needs assessment and quality improvement project to promote healthcare sustainability. Projects can be in-hospital initiatives, community initiatives, or focus on medical education, so long as they contribute to the goal of healthcare sustainability in Canada. In the discovery stream, individual trainees will be able to join the QI program, become matched with other trainees and mentors with shared interests to eventually develop a healthcare sustainability project. Our initiative is an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded thinkers in the healthcare sustainability space and learn about healthcare sustainability quality improvement; we will host community of practice meetings quarterly with the entire EARTH QI program discovery and funding stream cohorts for participants to learn from selected field experts and share project progress with other EARTH teams. If you have any questions, please email us at earth.initiative2025@gmail.com. We highly encourage any medical student and resident team to email us to inform us of your interest in applying; we would be more than happy to provide feedback and support to your applications. For more information about previous trainee-led healthcare sustainability initiatives from the PGH/PVLS and the TRASH-Can programs, please copy and paste the following links into your browser: https://www.cfms.org/what-we-do/global-health/greening-healthcare-initiative and https://www.trash-can.org/
