  • Help Shape the Future of Georgetown Fire Services

The Georgetown Fire Protection District is considering placing an updated fire funding measure on the November 2026 ballot. Currently, our district receives funding from two existing property taxes:

    1. Special Tax (Adopted in 1987):

    • Developed Parcels: $35.00/year
    • Undeveloped Parcels: $35.00/year
This tax has remained flat with no annual increase since its adoption.

    2. Fire Suppression Assessment (Adopted in 2002):

    • Developed Parcels: $77.27/year
    • Undeveloped Parcels: $66.23/year
This assessment includes a modest 2% annual increase.

When these taxes were first approved, Georgetown Fire was almost entirely staffed by volunteers; only the Fire Chief, a mechanic, and an office assistant were full-time positions. The ambulance service has always been funded separately by El Dorado County.

Today, our reality is much different.

We now provide all types of emergency services with:

    • One full-time firefighter on the engine every day
    • A full-time Fire Chief
    • A full-time Office Manager

Even with the same core funding levels since 2002, we’ve expanded our services and increased staffing to meet our community’s needs. However, to maintain and improve service levels, and ensure better safety and staffing on our fire engine, we need to increase our revenue.

    We want your input.
As we consider a potential tax measure, we’re reaching out to the community to hear your thoughts. If a measure is placed on the 2026 ballot and passes, our primary goal will be to increase staffing for better response, safety, and operational consistency.

Please take a few moments to complete our community questionnaire.
Your feedback is essential as we plan for the future of emergency services in Georgetown.

Together, we can continue to protect and serve our community with the quality and care you deserve.

Please only complete if you live within the boundaries of the Georgetown Fire Protection District.

  • Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.

No matter the outcome of any future election, Georgetown Fire remains committed to providing the best emergency services possible to our community.
