    SOUTH ISLAND/NATIONAL QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT:
Event rules will align with NSO eligibility as required to determine which teams or athletes will represent Tasman at a South Island or national tournament.

    TASMAN CHAMPIONSHIPS:
The purpose of the event is to find the top individual or team in the region. Schools may be limited to a determined number of athletes or teams (or may be open depending on event capacity). Officials should be qualified or determined as capable to referee at a competitive level. SSNZ eligibility rules will apply. Schools can apply to the RSO/ED for eligibility exemptions.

    TASMAN CUP (SOCIAL-COMPETITIVE):
Schools can bring several teams (may be limited only dependent on capacity). A draw may be devised to find a champion, however focus will be on enjoyment, inclusivity and fair game play. Tournament and game formats may be altered depending on number of entries. Teams won’t be ranked. Referees may not be qualified, may be students, managers, coaches or volunteers who know the rules. Second division/social grades may be offered.

    HAVE A GO/FESTIVAL EVENT:
Open entry events, with little or no competitive structure, designed to allow students to try new activities and/or have a go at a new sport.  Focus on inclusivity and enjoyment.

  • EXPECTATIONS OF ALL TASMAN SECONDARY SCHOOL SANCTIONED EVENTS:

    • Events must be accessible and afforable for students.
    • Events must be delivered in a safe, fair and positive environment.
    • Events during the school week should run between 9am - 3pm where possible.

The core principle should be prioritise enjoyment and development, ensuring a positive and sustainable relationship with sport.
    • * See delivery guidelines.
  • ENTRY PROCESS

Events should be run using the Sport Tasman entry process:

    • Codes provide event information, including format of competition, rules, entry fees, entry deadlines etc.
    • Sport Tamsan passes this information on to schools, promotes the event via the Sports Coordinators and rangatahi council, and collect entries from the schools.
    • All entries must go through the schools sports coordinator or teacher in charge and codes should not accept entries from individual parents/students etc.
    • Finalised entries are passed to the code/event manager who completes a draw if relevant and provides any final information.

    FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATION

Schools should be invoiced by the code/event manager after the event based on the number of participants onthe day (not on entries).  Sport Tasman can provide contact details for the schools if you don't have them.

    • Codes/Event Managers are expected to pay all expenses associated with the event.
    • Events on the TSS calendar are not intended to be profit-making events.
    • Please set entry fees to ensure all your costs are covered as much as practicable. Consider all event costs, including delivery expenses, venue booking expenses, medal costs (if required), first aid requirements and refreshments for any volunteers.
    •  Sport Tasman may ask you to supply a financial statement of reasoning for new events or if increasing fees from a previous year.
    • If you require Sport Tasman to do the invoicing on your behalf, there is a 15% administration fee, so please factor this in when setting entry fees.
