  • Nipper Board Hire Agreement 2025-26

    This is an agreement form between the Person paying and the people using the Hire equipment and Palm Beach Surf Life Saving Qld (the Club), there is a level of risk with any adventure activity and you are agreeing to the terms and conditions laid out by the Club and are using the equipment at your own risk.
  • Palm Beach Surf Life Saving Nippers has a stock of Fibreglass, Epoxy and Foam Nipper Boards. Boards are broadly categorised as either:

    General Use Nipper Boards (SECTION 1) - These include older fibreglass nipper boards and foam nipper boards which are available for general use

    Individual Loan Nipper Boards (SECTION 2) - These include eight Nipper Boards which will be loaned for individual use throughout the season

    The club does not have a stock of Racing Malibu boards which are loaned by the Under 14 and Under 15 age groups in training and competition, though we do have Club Boards for use during training sessions and need to be washed down and returned after use.

    1.    GENERAL USE NIPPER Boards

    • The club owns a number of fibreglass and foam nipper boards which are stored at the surf club.
    • General use fibreglass nipper boards are for the use of all registered children who are in the age groups that use the boards for competition U11-U13 yr olds.
    • General use foam nipper boards are for general use by the U10 yr old age group and below. For older age groups, only children that aren’t competent on fibreglass nipper boards should be using foam nipper boards.
    • Boards are available for use at Palm Beach Nippers on Saturdays when activities are held, all carnivals attended by the club and at other times when an authorised person is in attendance (i.e. club training sessions).
    • The club will pay for the cost of repairs to boards if damaged in the normal course of competition and training. Any damage to a board must immediately be reported to the authorised person attending the activity or Gear Steward to determine the appropriate repair.
    • Costs incurred from damage caused by reckless or unauthorised use of a board will be the responsibility of the nipper (parents).

     2.    INDIVIDUAL LOAN NIPPER BOARD ALLOCATION

    • The club has a limited number of fibreglass loan Nipper boards available for individual nipper allocation.
    • Children (U11 to U13 Year olds) may apply to the Gear Stewart for the loan of one of the club’s fibreglass Loan Nipper boards for a season.
    • The determination of this application will be at the discretion of the Nipper Coach, Director of Surf Sports, Sports Performance Co-ordinator, JAC and Gear Stewart, will be based on the child’s attendance at Saturday activities, arranged training sessions, carnivals (last season’s attendance), the way any previous boards have been maintained, the competency of the nipper.
    • Priority will be given to older, competent nippers regularly attending training and carnivals.
    • Throughout the season, the nipper coach will review the competency of the nippers attending club training sessions.  In the case a nipper is deemed to be at a stage where they would benefit from the use of a higher quality craft, the coach will liaise with the JAC, Director of Surf Sports and Gear Stewart to seek permission to loan a board.
    • Boards will only be allocated to Nippers who compete for the club, complete required age certificates, attend club training and club fundraising events.
    • Upon approval, a parent/guardin must complete the “Fibreglass Nipper Board Loan Form” (APPENDIX 1) and the “BOARD CONDITION REPORT” (APPENDIX 2).  Further, at the time of submission the parents should make a $150 payment for use of the board throughout the season.
  • Terms of Hire

    • A non-refundable $150 payment is required for use of the board for the season.  This will assist the club to maintain a stock of quality boards for members use. 
    • Cost of ALL repairs will NOT be covered by the Club should the situation arise.
    • The child will have exclusive use of the nominated board and padded cover at club training, Saturday nippers and carnivals.
    • The board must remain at the club when not being used for the above mentioned activities.
    • An inspection of the board will be done periodically throughout the season.
    • The loan arrangement only extends to the length of the nipper season.  Boards should be returned to the Club at the end of the nipper season.

    Conditions of Hire

    • All LOAN NIPPER BOARDS and COVERS remain the property of the club.
    • The JAC or Gear Stewart retains the right to overrule this agreement and demand the return of the board if the conditions are not adhered to.
    • In the event of the board being required for urgent competition use by another child, the Nipper Coach and JAC retains the right to allocate the board for temporary use to another child during the course of a carnival. This decision will be made at the carnival by either the JAC, team manager of club nipper coach.
    • The user must ensure that no damage is caused to the board through transportation (i.e. don’t strap boards on top of each other, don’t store inside the car for excessive periods, use BOARD straps, NOT rubberised bungee cords or elastic straps).
    • The boards must be maintained in good condition and may be inspected throughout the season by the gear steward, coach, or director of surf sports.
    • All repairs required to the board will be the responsibility of the ‘approved user’ parents of the nipper to whom the board is allocated.
    • If damage is done to the board please notify the club via email (admin@pbqslsq.com.au) within 24hrs of the incident occurring. In the email please include:  

    o   Photo of the damage

    o   Brief overview of the incident

    o   When the board will be repaired and returned

    • Repairs need to be organised at the professional repairer nominated by the club.  Approved repairer: Knight Rider Surf Repairs
    • If the board is lost, the user will be responsible for the full replacement cost.
    • The board must be used responsibly, never standing up or used in ways considered dangerous.
    • The user is required to attend at least two club board or iron person training session per week (or provide evidence of formal board training if living in Brisbane) and at least one swimming session per week as well as all nominated club carnivals (pending availability).
    • The board should be returned to the club at the end of the regular nipper season.
    • I have made a $150 payment for use of the nominated PBQSLSC Club nipper board.
    • I have read the attached terms and conditions (SECTION 2) and agree to them.
    • I have a copy of this agreement and the terms and conditions and will abide by them.
    • I understand the board remains club property.
    • I will be liable for any loss or damage as per the agreement (Appendix 2) that occurs to the board.
    • I will abide by any decision made by the committee regarding the use of the board.
