Documenting as a (fearfully aware) Psychotherapist in an Unstable Political Climate: Supporting Trans* Clients

Threats to the trans* community continue and gender affirming care is still on the chopping block. What does that mean for how we can support our trans* clients? How can we document our care approriately and in a manner that protects them? How can we support them in getting gender affirming care? In this training, we will discuss these issues and apply them to case scenarios. This is a part two of our "Well, What Now?" training. Attendees can earn 2 CEs toward their cultural competence requirements.

Deepen cultural understanding: Explore trans* identities and lived experiences, and examine the unique societal challenges faced by trans* communities. | Leverage documentation as advocacy: Recognize how accurate, affirming documentation serves as vital micro-level support and protection for trans* individuals. | Build resilience through community: Learn strategies to mobilize support networks, strengthen collective defenses, and foster safer, more affirming environments.

Laura Grimes, LCSW (she/her) is a sex therapist and the founder and CEO of Inclusive Insight Psychotherapy, where she leads with a mission to foster inclusivity and authenticity in mental health care. With over 30 years of experience, Laura has dedicated her career to supporting individuals and communities navigating complex identities, relationships, and cultural challenges. Her career has been deeply rooted in advocating for marginalized populations, including LGBTQI+ individuals, BIPOC communities, and those exploring non-traditional relationship structures and alternative sexualities. Her training priorities are to illuminate cultural blind spots, dismantle systemic “isms,” and foster environments that are genuinely inclusive and affirming. Laura’s compassionate approach and unwavering commitment to advocacy make her a transformative force in the fields of psychotherapy, social work, and inclusion.
