Glencoe-Silver Lake Public Schools provides a wide range of technology resources for student use. This Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) outlines appropriate use and prohibited activities when using all technology resources and electronic devices. Every student is expected to follow all the rules and conditions listed, as well as those given verbally by teachers and administrators, and to always demonstrate good citizenship and ethical behavior.
Glencoe-Silver Lake Public Schools uses a filtering system that tracks and monitors all Internet, computer, and Chromebook use. The system is designed to prevent access to educationally inappropriate sites. It is important to understand that no filtering system is perfect. Due to the nature of the Internet, even with supervision, we cannot guarantee that students will not reach inappropriate sites. It is the student’s responsibility to report any inappropriate sites to the teacher.
Using the Internet and District equipment in school is a privilege not a right. The districts network, Internet, and equipment are NOT private. The Technology Department can “monitor” everything you do on the school equipment. This means someone can read what you write and see the web pages that you visit.
THINK – before you do anything online that you would not want your teachers or parents to see.
The AUP is to ensure the safety of our students and to support instructional goals. It outlines effective and appropriate use of all available technology. Students may have access to resources (computers, Chromebooks, network, and Internet) once the AUP has been signed by the students and parent / guardian.
By signing the Acceptable Use Policy, students and parents / guardians acknowledge the following rules and conditions:
