    Please review the following policies and provide your consent by signing below. This form covers Acceptable Technology Use, parental consent for Google Workspace for Education accounts, and legal compliance notices.
  • Glencoe-Silver Lake Public Schools provides a wide range of technology resources for student use. This Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) outlines appropriate use and prohibited activities when using all technology resources and electronic devices. Every student is expected to follow all the rules and conditions listed, as well as those given verbally by teachers and administrators, and to always demonstrate good citizenship and ethical behavior.

    Glencoe-Silver Lake Public Schools uses a filtering system that tracks and monitors all Internet, computer, and Chromebook use. The system is designed to prevent access to educationally inappropriate sites. It is important to understand that no filtering system is perfect. Due to the nature of the Internet. Even with supervision, we cannot guarantee that students will not reach inappropriate sites. It is the student’s responsibility to report any inappropriate sites to the teacher.

    • I am responsible for my computer account and e-mail account.
    • I am responsible for my language.
    • I am responsible for how I treat other people.
    • I am responsible for my use of the district network.
    • I am responsible for being honest while I am online.
    • I am responsible for protecting the security of the districts network.
    • I am responsible for protecting school property.
    • I am responsible for respecting other people’s property online.
    • I am responsible for following school rules whenever I publish anything online.

    The use of the district’s technology resources is a privilege, not a right. The privilege of using the technology resources provided by the district is not transferable or extendable by students to people or groups outside the district and terminates when a student is no longer enrolled in the district. This policy is provided to make all users aware of the responsibilities associated with efficient, ethical, and lawful use of technology resources. If a person violates any of the User Terms and Conditions named in this policy, privileges may be terminated, access to the school district technology resources may be denied, and the appropriate disciplinary action shall be applied.

    *Students will not use computers or Chromebooks unless this agreement is signed and returned within two weeks of his or her first day of school.

    Parents: I have read and discussed with my student the Acceptable Use Policy and give permission for him or her to use these resources. I have read the GSLHS Student Acceptable Policy and will abide by the stated Acceptable Use. I understand that a violation may result in:

    • Restriction or loss of technology system use privileges.
    • Disciplinary or legal action, including, but not limited to, suspension, expulsion from school and / or criminal prosecution under appropriate local, state, and federal laws.
    • Assessment of the cost of damages to district technology systems.

    Further, I release SD-2859 from all liability arising because of my use of the internet, and I assume all responsibility arising out of my use of technology systems.

    In using the technological resources provided by SD-2859, the student will:

    1. Bear in mind that all communication represents the district and thus reflects on the integrity, ethics, and good name of the organization as a public education institution.
    2. Not seek unauthorized access to school, district, other public or private computer system, communication systems, or electronic files for any purpose.
    3. Comply with all related Board of Education policies, administrative guidelines, including copyrighted materials, and operating procedures relative to acceptable and responsible use.

    The student understands that:

    1. Use of technology systems must be in support of education and research and be consistent with the purposes and policies of SD-2859.
    2. Use of technology systems to access/transmit obscene, objectionable, pornographic material, or any material likely to be offensive is prohibited.
    3. Any use of technology systems to facilitate illegal activity is prohibited.
    4. Any use of technology systems for commercial or for-profit purposes is prohibited.
    5. Users will not knowingly spread computer viruses through district technology systems. Users will report warning messages regarding virus activity to technology support staff or a classroom teacher.
    6. Use of e-mail distribution lists to send inappropriate or spam-type e-mail messages is prohibited.
    7. Any use of technology systems for product advertisement or political lobbying is prohibited.
    8. Network and e-mail accounts are to be used only by the authorized owner of the account for authorized purposes. Users should not leave systems that they are logged into unattended.
    9. Users shall not intentionally seek information on, obtain copies of, or modify files, other data, or passwords belonging to other users or misrepresent themselves or other users of Technology systems.
    10. Users shall respect the copyright of all accessible information.
    11. No use of technology systems shall serve to disrupt the use of the network by others; hardware or software shall not be destroyed, modified, or abused in any way.
    12. Students shall have no expectation of privacy, from review of materials, when using district technology systems.
    13. Hate mail, harassment, discriminatory remarks, and other anti-social behaviors are prohibited.
    14. Students who have knowledge of violations of this policy must promptly report this information to a teacher or administrator.
    15. All Acceptable Use Policies described in this document apply to usage of district technology systems both at home and at school.
    16. The equipment checked out will be secure at all times and that I am responsible for loss, theft, or damage to district technology equipment that I have checked out.
    17. Students are discouraged from providing personally identifiable (social security number, home address, home phone number, bank account numbers, etc.) information over the Internet. Personal information about students (including photographs) will not be disseminated publicly online without written permission from parents.
    18. Students should not respond to messages that are suggestive, obscene, or threatening. Show such messages to an administrator or teacher who will forward a copy to technology.
  • Google Workspace for Education Use:

    Dear Parents/Guardians, 

    Glencoe-Silver Lake Public Schools will be using Google Workspace for Education / Google Additional Services in some classes. This permission form describes the tools, student responsibilities, and parental consent requirements for the use of these services. 

    All students K-4 are given a Google Workspace for Education account. Your acknowledgment of how student information may be collected and stored as part of this service. View Google’s privacy information here.   

    Google Workspace for Education is a set of productivity tools from Google including Calendar, Docs, Classroom, Drive and more. It is used by students and teachers worldwide. At Glencoe-Silver Lake Public Schools, students will use their Google Workspace accounts to complete assignments, communicate with teachers, and develop digital citizenship skills. 

    By signing this form, you acknowledge your student will be given a Google Workspace for Education account.

    • Official Google Account: Your child will receive a school-issued Google account for educational purposes.
    • Access Restrictions: Account access is a privilege and may be revoked if district policies are violated.
    • Security: The district cannot guarantee absolute security of electronic files stored on Google systems.
    • District Oversight: The district reserves the right to access any student account when there is reasonable suspicion of policy violations. 

    Parental Acknowledgment of Data Collection & Storage

    • As part of using Google Workspace for Education:
    • Student information will be collected and stored electronically by Google.
    • Some student records may be accessible online, and while FERPA protects student privacy, the district cannot guarantee that all information will remain confidential in the online environment.
    • Not having a Google Workspace for Education account may limit the student’s ability to participate in certain educational activities. 

    Technology use in Glencoe-Silver Lake Public Schools is governed by federal laws, including:
