Abortion Pill Names & Dosage Information
If you need resources to obtain abortion pills or have different pills than the ones listed below, please reach out to a Rouge Doula.
Currently, based on WHO guidelines, there are two recommended ways of doing a medical abortion. Where you are located and if you have access to Mifepristone often determines which protocol you follow:
Protocol 1 - A combination of two pills - Mifepristone and Misoprostol
Protocol 2 - Misoprostol alone

(Mifepristone is the larger pill on the left. Misoprostol are the smaller pills on the right)
The second part of 'Your Abortion Guide' will go into more detail on how to take abortion pills. Once you've obtained pills and finished this guide, start Part Two.
For now, here is the dosage information you need to know:
If you are following Protocol 1:
You need one dose of Mifepristone.
One dose = 1 pill (200mg)
*If you are following Protocol 2, you do not need Mifepristone. However, if Mifepristone is available in your country, it often improves the effectiveness of your abortion.
If you are following Protocol 1 OR 2:
How much Misoprostol you take is dependent on where you are at in your pregnancy.
For pregnancies 12 weeks and under:
You will take at least one round of Misoprostol.
One Round = 4 pills (200mcg each = 800mcg total)*
You may need more than one round of pills. It is advised to have at least 12 Misoprostol pills on hand.
For pregnancies 13 weeks and over:
You will take multiple rounds of Misoprostol.
One Round = 2 pills (200mcg each = 400mcg total)*
It is advised to have at least 16 Misoprostol pills on hand.
*In Europe and some other parts of the world, Misoprostol pills may come in different dosages. Be sure to check the dosage information and adjust the number of pills accordingly. What matters most is that you take the recommended total amount in micrograms (mcg).
