Thank you for your interest in volunteering with One Good Deed Dementia Support, a new program made possible by the Alzheimer's Association Center for Dementia Respite Innovation (CDRI).
One Good Deed Dementia Support volunteers bring meaningful companionship to older adults living with dementia, offering social engagement while helping their caregiver rest, recharge, or attend to their own needs.
This is a rewarding experience that requires no previous experience, only a desire to make a difference.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Role: Connect with your matched older adult through simple, meaningful activities like chatting over coffee, playing games, listening to music or music therapy, taking a short walk, or simply holding hands.
- Training: All volunteers will participate in a required, free 6-hour training on dementia care, trauma-informed communication, and music-based engagement through JF&CS (2 hours virtually and 4 hours in-person).
- Commitment:
- Two, 2-hour home visits per month
- Quarterly in-person programs with your match in Dunwoody
- Monthly virtual peer support meetings
- Location: In the community. Volunteers visit their older adult match in their home.
- Onboarding Process: We will review your interest form and reach out to discuss next steps. Note: Volunteers are required to complete a criminal background check during the screening process, at no cost to the volunteer.
