This academic year, we are offering:
1. Paid tutoring with an assigned pairing
2. Volunteer tutoring with an assigned pairing
3. Volunteer tutoring in an open room
Please read through the differences below.
1. PAID TUTORING WITH AN ASSIGNED PAIRING
- You will be assigned one student for the entire academic year, please ensure you can continue with us from August to May. This option is required to meet two hours a week (one hour per day, Tuesday and Thursday).
- Tutor will be asked, in this form, to apply with a resume detailing their tutoring and teaching experience. There will be an open box for longer explanations as well.
- If your initial application is approved, you will be contacted for a short and informal interview. We just want to get to know you! If you have volunteered with us previously, you will not need an interview.
- Tutors should expect to keep up with their student's grades, report cards, and general progress. This option is offered to families with student who are struggling and need more rigourous upkeep.
- There will be a reward system for student and tutor pairs that demonstrate improvement throughout the semester!
- If your student is absent, you will be assigned with another student or assigned to an open room.
- Tutors will be paid $17/hour, with a minimum of 8 hours a month and a maximum of 25 hour a month. You will be contractually hired and will be asked to sign a contract at the end of the onboarding process.
- This position has a stricter attendance policy than the others, with up to four absences in a semester before your contract may be considered for termination.
2. VOLUNTEER TUTORING WITH ASSIGNED PAIRING
- Essentially the style of tutoring we have always prioritized, where you will be paired with a student to generally meet with twice a week (one hour per day, Tuesday and Thursday).
- If your student is absent, you will be assigned with another student or assigned to an open room.
- You will not be asked for a resume, just that you provide a quick explanation of your previous tutoring or teaching experience.
- There is no obligation to report student grades, although there will be a reward system for student and tutor pairs that improve throughout the semester, so we encourage you to ask for their exam and report card grades periodically!
- Attendance requirments allow for up to 8 absences in a semester.
3. VOLUNTEER TUTORING IN AN OPEN ROOM
- This option has the least amount of commitment, with no specific student paired to the tutor. You will be assigned an open room based on your subject and grade prefrences, and students will be sent to you as they arrive to the zoom.
- You are only required to sign up for one hour in the week with a consistent schedule. You may sign up for up to four, or come extra hours as you would like outside of your official schedule. Every hour generally means a different student. You may see some consistency with the students you get, but do not expect it.
- You will not be asked for a resume, just that you provide a quick explanation of your previous tutoring or teaching experience.
- Attendance requirments allow for up to 8 absences in a semester.
ALL TUTORS SHOULD EXPECT TO ATTEND AN ONLINE ORIENTATION SESSION, tentatively on August 26th in the evening.
