Hormone Replacement Therapy – Risks & Side Effects
By initiating hormone replacement therapy (HRT), you acknowledge that while treatment may relieve symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, low libido, brain fog, and vaginal dryness, it also carries potential risks and side effects.
📋 Common Side Effects:
Breast tenderness
Bloating or water retention
Nausea or headaches
Mood changes
Light spotting or irregular cycles (if not postmenopausal)
Application site irritation (patches or creams)
⚠️ Less Common / Serious Risks:
Blood clot formation (especially with oral estrogen or smoking)
Gallbladder issues
Elevated blood pressure
Changes in liver enzymes
Endometrial thickening if not on progesterone
Breast density changes or cancer risk (long-term, debated)
👉 Routine labs and symptom tracking are required at months 3, 6, and 9. Refills will not be issued without current labs and follow-up appointments.
