    This class is NOT intended for RV, Roadtrek, or Travel Trailer types of vehicle dwellers. We will be sharing skills for living well out of cars, vans, SUVs, Trucks or Cargo Trailers.

  • Oops, this course isn't a good fit. We won’t be covering things with RV related systems (grey/black tanks, running water, onboard generators, propane refrigeration or heat). This program is intended for participants using registered and insured cars, trucks, vans, and converted trailers as homes who have launched into nomadic life recently. Please reapply at a future course when your rig is registered and insured for travel. We look forward to see you Down the Road!

    Although we are unable to assist directly, we want to provide you with additional resources that may be helpful: 
    There are several programs and resources available for low-income individuals who need financial help with car repairs. Here are some options to explore: 
    Government & State Assistance Programs 
    Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) – Some states offer financial assistance for car repairs through TANF. Check with your local Department of Human Services. 
    Workforce Assistance Programs – If you need a car to get to work, some workforce development programs provide financial aid for repairs. 
    Local Human Services Offices – Many counties and states offer emergency assistance programs that may include car repairs. 
    Nonprofits & Charities 
    Modest Needs – Provides short-term financial assistance for emergency expenses, including car repairs. (modestneeds.org) 
    Working Cars for Working Families – Helps low-income workers access affordable transportation. (workingcarsforworkingfamilies.org) 
    United Way 211 – Dial 211 or visit 211.org to find local organizations that provide car repair assistance. 
    The Salvation Army – Some local branches offer help with car repairs in emergency situations. 
    Car Repair-Specific Programs

    Vehicle Repair Grant Programs – Some states offer grants for car repairs, especially for low-income families and those needing transportation for work. 
    Local Churches & Faith-Based Organizations – Many churches have assistance funds for car repairs or connections to local mechanics willing to help. 
    Other Assistance Options 
    Crowdfunding – Websites like GoFundMe or Modest Needs can help raise funds for car repairs. 
    Community Action Agencies – These agencies often help low-income individuals with emergency expenses, including car repairs. 
    Vocational Schools – Some technical colleges offer low-cost or free car repairs as part of student training programs. 
    If you’re looking for direct assistance, I’d recommend calling 211 or checking state-specific programs first, as they often provide the quickest help.

  • Thank you so much for your interest in attending to the HOWA Boondocking Skills Course. We were honored to receive interest from so many inspiring individuals navigating their early nomadic journeys.  Since HOWA is unable to provide Physical or Mental Health assistance at the event we send our regrets.

    There are resources available for mental health support.  Here are a few options:

    -Dial 988 from your phone: speak to the 24hr call center about your needs and inquire about possible options. They have a vast array of resources, this is not just a suicide prevention hotline. 

    -TMSA provides not one, but two Nomad Communities: The Virtual Caravans for all nomads and The Nomad Chapter for the subset of Nomads who share mental health challenges. There is an overlap in those two communities so it is not unusual for Nomads to participate in both communities. The big difference is that the Virtual Caravans are not confidential and are open to all nomads while the Nomad Chapter is only open to those who identify as having any mental health challenge or who are autistic and its community is confidential.    www.teammoodsupport.org/nomad/
