  • 1. Purpose

    This policy outlines mandatory driver safety standards enforced via Microlise Telematics and in-cab monitoring. All drivers must adhere to these behavioural expectations while operating J.CO Logistics fleet vehicles under the Woolworths Online contract.

    Breaches place safety, compliance, and contractual standing at risk — and will result in enforcement action without exception.

    2.1 Telematics Monitoring Overview

    Microlise monitors the following:

    • Seatbelt status: Detects if the seatbelt is not fastened while the vehicle is in motion.
    • Mobile phone use and distraction: AI-powered cameras detect hand-to-face movements and distracted behaviours such as texting or calling.
    • Speed compliance: Records the vehicle’s speed using GPS and compares it to the posted road limit.
    • Harsh driving events: Monitors rapid acceleration, hard braking, and sharp cornering.
    • Fatigue risk: Tracks engine-on time and rest periods to detect non-compliance with fatigue and break requirements.
    • Geofence and route tracking: Captures route adherence, stops, and detours for operational compliance.
    • Video footage: Captures visual evidence during unsafe events to support investigations and driver feedback.

    All data collected is reviewed routinely by Linfox and used to determine compliance, identify risk trends, and support driver development.

    2.2 In-Cab Alerts (Beeps)

    The in-cab unit provides real-time audio alerts (beeps) to prompt corrective action during a shift. These alerts are not optional and must be responded to immediately.

    What the beeps mean:

    • Single beep: Minor breach (e.g. slight overspeed). Driver must adjust speed or behaviour.
    • Continuous or repeated beep: Serious breach (e.g. seatbelt off, phone use, harsh manoeuvre). Driver must immediately correct the behaviour or pull over safely if needed.

    All alerts are automatically recorded in the driver’s behavioural scorecard. Failure to respond appropriately to in-cab alerts may result in disciplinary action, even if no incident occurs.

    3. Mobile Phone Use & Seatbelt Compliance (Zero-Tolerance)

    Use of a mobile device while driving or operating a vehicle without a seatbelt is strictly prohibited. These are considered serious breaches of contract.

    Disciplinary Action:

    • First Breach:
      ▸ 48-hour stand down
      ▸ First and final written warning
      ▸ Driver must complete a safety coaching session before return to duty
    • Second Breach:
      ▸ Immediate termination of the CSA (Contracted Services Agreement)
      ▸ Driver is removed permanently from the Woolworths Online contract
      Note: These actions apply even if no incident or damage occurred. Detected breach alone triggers enforcement.

    4. Speeding Compliance (Linfox Driver Behaviour Policy)

    All drivers are required to comply with posted speed limits at all times. Microlise monitors vehicle speed using real-time GPS tracking and compares it against legal road speed limits. Any speeding events detected above the configured threshold are received, reviewed and enforced under the Linfox Driver Behaviour Policy guidelines.

    • *4 to 10 KPH above local or heavy vehicle speed limit - Written Warning
    • **11 to 15 KPH above local or heavy vehicle speed limit - Final Written Warning
    • Over 15 KPH above local or heavy vehicle speed limit - Termination of Employment

    *Detected Speeding Events in the '4 to 10KPH above local or heavy vehicle speed limit' range must be met and sustained for 5 seconds or longer

    **Any further Detected Speeding Events  incurred by a driver after being issues a Final Written Warning, within a rolling three-year period, will result in termination of employment.

    5. Acknowledgement

    By signing below, I confirm that I have read, understood, and agree to comply with the Microlise Driver Safety Policy as outlined above. I acknowledge the following:

    • I am aware that Microlise Telematics operates at all times while I am driving a J.CO Logistics vehicle under the Woolworths Online contract.
    • I understand that my driving behaviour, including seatbelt use, phone usage, speeding, fatigue compliance, and driving style, is continuously monitored.
    • I understand that serious breaches such as not wearing a seatbelt or using a mobile device while driving are subject to a zero-tolerance policy and will result in immediate disciplinary action.
    • I agree to respond to all in-cab alerts (beeps) promptly and appropriately.
    • I understand that all breaches, regardless of whether they result in an incident, are recorded and reviewed by management.
    • I have had the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification about any part of this policy.
