Dear Governor Newsom,
Parents didn't think California vaccination law could become any more injurious to California's children.
Five years ago when you signed SB276 into law, you created a designed-to-fail medical exemption system, creating a de facto mandatory vaccination scheme for California students to receive more than 30 vaccine doses to attend school.
In September, you made vaccination law worse.
You signed AB144 into law, creating a California-only vaccine schedule. When it goes into effect on July 1, 2026, only the California Department of Public Health will have the authority to modify and enforce California's schedule.
The California-only vaccination schedule will no longer be based on CDC recommendations. For example, the CDC removed COVID shots from the recommended schedule, while California will still include them.
AB144 removes public transparency, bypassing input from parents and treating physicians.
Governor Newsom, California parents have had enough. California is now the only state with de facto mandates governed by the Department of Public Health, and with a vaccine schedule certain to diverge even further from federal guidance.
This combination will make the health of California's children worse, not better.

When fewer than 1% of students had medical exemptions, you obliterated the medical exemption, starting in 2021.
You allow public schools to lie to parents. Schools insist a student with an IEP needs 30+ doses of ten vaccine to attend public school. California Health & Saf. Code, § 120335(h) states otherwise. IEP students are guaranteed full vaccine choice.
Your attempt to "Trump-proof" California by signing AB144 comes at the expense of our children's health. You sold out our children to Big Pharma, yet again.
The numbers do not lie. We are ensuring those in power know the true state of health in California's children, and who made it worse.

Governor Newsom: Suspend Vaccine Mandates TODAY to Protect California's Vulnerable Children
Since you failed to listen to California families, today we ask public officials from California to Washington, DC to help you do the right thing: Make Vaccination Voluntary Again in California.
In light of the Health and Human Services initiative to uncover the causes of autism and other chronic health conditions that now plague more than half our children, and the fact that vaccines are expected to be a major causal factor, we implore you to suspend vaccine mandates in California, now.
We are asking each of these public officials to expose what you have done to California's children, and to pressure you to Make Vaccination Voluntary Again in California:
- U.S. Congressman Kevin Kiley: Make public your missteps in emails.
- CDPH Director Pan & Superintendent Thurmond: Halt enforcement of vaccine mandates and tell parents of IEP students the truth about their vaccine choice rights, per California Health & Saf. Code, § 120335(h).
- President Trump, HHS Secretary Kennedy, Senator Ron Johnson, Assistant AG Harmeet Dhillon, and DOE Secretary McMahon: Pressure you to roll back AB144 and end vaccine mandates due to the chronic disease and learning crisis in California children, myriad due process violations and the growing federal expense of educating California's special ed (IEP) students ($14B/year).
We, the citizens of California, will not stand down until parents again call the shots in this state.
