Nominate the 2026 Lord and Lady Trapper
The titles of Lord and Lady Trapper are prestigious honors bestowed upon outstanding citizens who exemplify the values and pillars of our community. These esteemed individuals are recognized for their significant contributions to Anchorage and the broader Alaskan community through their dedication to business, community involvement, and even service to the Fur Rendezvous festival.
Honoring Community Pillars
By embracing the roles of Lord and Lady Trapper, these ambassadors symbolize the spirit of cooperation, service, and commitment that defines our community. Their selection highlights the importance of recognizing those who have devoted their time, talent, and treasure to fostering growth and unity within Anchorage and beyond. The legacy of this honor dates back to 1981 with the first Lord Trapper, Perry Green, and the first Lady Trapper, Jean Kaufman, in 1997. Each year, former legacy members carefully select the new honorees, from community nominations, ensuring that the tradition remains rooted in community values.
Responsibilities Festival and Beyond
The responsibilities of Lord and Lady Trapper can extend beyond the days of the Fur Rondy festival, which is scheduled for February 23 - March 8, 2025. Throughout their year of service, they are invited to participate in key events and engage with the community in various capacities. They are joined by the rest of the Fur Rondy Royalty—comprising the Queen, Princesses, Sweetheart, Heritage Ambassador, and King and Queen Regents—at these festivities, fostering camaraderie and enhancing the festival's spirit.
Celebrating Our Community Leaders
Notable past recipients of the Lord Trapper title include influential figures such as George Sullivan, Ernie Hall, Rick Morrison, and Cary Carrigan. Similarly, the Lady Trapper honor has been held by remarkable community leaders like Claire Morton, Nancy Starn, Jo Jensen, and Maria Downey. These individuals have set a high standard for excellence, and their contributions have paved the way for future generations to continue this legacy.
A Call to Honor New Leaders
As we look forward to the upcoming festival, we invite the community to consider who among us might be deserving of this prestigious recognition. Do you know someone who could join the ranks of Lord or Lady Trapper? This is an opportunity to celebrate those who have made significant contributions to our community and ensure that the spirit of Fur Rendezvous continues to thrive.
The Lord and Lady Trapper embody the essence of Anchorage and serve as champions of community spirit, making their role integral to both the Fur Rondy festival and the city’s ongoing success. Their commitment to service and leadership reflects the best of what our community stands for, inspiring all of us to engage and contribute.
