  • Event Information

Christmas Under the Edge is an Outdoor Event always held on the first Saturday in December.

Next Event Saturday 6th December 2025

    4-8pm in Wotton-under-Edge, GL12.

The event kicks off at 4pm with a procession led by Father Christmas. The procession includes local children from both primary schools singing carols, the Town Crier, and anyone who wants to join in.

The procession travels from Church Street to the Town Hall on Market Street and passes the vast majority of stalls and shops on the route.

Music will be everywhere, with the Mummers, Morris Dancers, local school children performing, sets by various musicians and wandering street performers.

Father Christmas will process to his Grotto in the Town Hall. Grotto and tickets provided by The Keepers Community Hub, Wotton-under-Edge.

Shops will be open late and some will have stalls outside as well.

Local artisans, organisations, and businesses will have stalls offering all types of Food, Drink, Crafts, Ceramics, Jewellery, Accessories, Games and Information. At the last event there were over 70 shops and stalls booked.

The event usually draws around 4,000 visitors. The roads are closed for the duration of the event, reopening at 8pm.

The event is run by community volunteers for the benefit of the community. It is a not for profit event and any proceeds are used to provide costs for the following year.

Please remember that all organisers are volunteers and have jobs and families to consider.

    That means

    (1) that we have to balance the competing demands of many stallholders and street traders, community groups, and shopkeepers. What may appear appropriate to your specific situation might well compromise a number of others more significantly and

    (2) that it will take longer for us to respond to questions and queries at times, for which we do ask your understanding.

We organise the event using a philosophical principle popularised by Jeremy Bentham - the concept that 'we should achieve the greatest amount of happiness for the greatest proportion of those people affected’. It’s always good to bear that in mind.

  • Pitches will be allocated on the following roads

Long Street, Market Street, & Church Street, GL12

To have a stall outside your shop you will need

*Your Own Gazebo, Table, & Lights *

Electricity requests - if you can supply a single 13A supply to a stall holder please let us know below.

Please note that pitches cannot be deeper than 3m and a deposit may be required for electricity provision/cable reels. Water cannot be provided.

If you have your own generator please specify type/fuel and location (eg. driver's side of vehicle or separate to stall).

Applications should receive a response within 2 weeks

  • Please upload proof of your Public Liability Insurance and, if a Food Vendor, provide your Food Hygiene Licence Number and Certificate. Food Hygiene Ratings must be 3 Stars or above.

  • The operation of any food business/stall must comply with the Food Hygiene England Regulations 2013 and the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974. In addition, please indicate which local authority you are registered with. This is only applicable to food sold for consumption on the day. Please note stalls offering high risk foods, e.g., burgers/ meat products, sandwiches, etc. must have appropriate hand wash and sanitising facilities in place.

Natasha’s Law. All food outlets are required to provide full ingredient lists with clear allergen labelling on Pre-Packed for Direct Sale foods (PPDS). PPDS is food that is prepared, prepacked and offered or sold to consumers on the same premises.

  • Please specify whether you will have a stall outside your shop and your Gazebo/Stall Size so that a pitch can be allocated to accommodate your stall properly.

Prices are dependent upon size of stall.

Local organisations, artisans, and businesses will be given priority.

Please specify whether you are able to supply electricity to a stall holder in addition to supplying your own.

If you wish to have a stall on the space outside your shop/business you will need to pay a pitch fee towards the cost of the Insurance and Licences for the event.

The requirement for a pitch fee is due to the trading laws stating that without a licence you are not allowed to trade on the street and CUTE is paying for that licence.

Should you choose not to open or to have a stall outside your premises, CUTE organisers reserve the right to put a stall in front of your shop to enable as many stall holders as possible to fill the streets with open and available shopping.

  • I understand that, should I not be open until 7pm, CUTE organisers reserve the right to put a stall in front of my shop to enable as many stall holders as possible to fill the streets with open and available shopping.
