    • Founded in 2003, Carolina’s Home Medical Equipment (CHMEI) is a family owned and operated durable medical equipment provider in Matthews, NC. We provide outcome-centric service and quality products which promote health and facilitate aging independently in the home. 

      Our experienced, knowledgeable team believes in providing old-fashioned customer service and strives to treat every customer like family.

      As a local business with under 50 employees, we don’t have the traditional bureaucracies associated with the large national companies. Without the middleman or red tape, we are able to be flexible and provide fast, excellent service.

      Jeff has over 40 years of experience in Durable Medical Equipment and the Complex Rehab fields, obtaining his industry standard Assistive Technology Professional Certification in 2001. Jeff was the fourth person in Washington State to receive the ATP Certification. He has the ability to provide for and connect with a broad spectrum of clients. He has had the privilege to work with skilled and dedicated Therapists from various disciplines, including Traumatic Brain Injuries, Spinal Cord Injuries, and advanced Neurological diseases. Jeff considers Seating and Positioning his most important skill.

       

                       Contact Me 

      Chad is a RESNA certified Assistive Technology Professional/Seating and Mobility Specialist (ATP/SMS).  He’s also a NRRTS Certified Rehabilitation Technology Specialist (CRTS), a Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist (CAPS), and a Mastery Certified Environmental Access Consultant (CEAC). 

      He joined the US Navy where he served honorably for four years.  Chad then worked for an avionics company and with the US Army’s Special Operations Forces for 3 years.  He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in management and a Master’s degree from Northeastern University in leadership and organizational communication.  Chad has been working in the Complex Rehabilitation community for over 15 years.  In addition to Complex Rehab equipment, Chad is an expert in the Home Access arena which includes stair lifts, modular ramp systems, ceiling lifts, and vehicle lifts.

      Seth is a North Carolina native with an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology, which provided him with a strong foundation in understanding how progressive disease processes impact patients’ mobility needs.

      Seth began his career as a technician, working hands-on with equipment delivery, setup, and service. This experience led him to obtain his Assistive Technology degree, enabling him to evaluate patients and recommend complex wheelchair solutions tailored to their individual needs. He has been in the complex wheelchair industry for over 7 years. He excels at matching patients with the most appropriate mobility equipment to enhance quality of life, safety, and independence.

    • AffloVest: Portable High Frequency Chest Wall Oscillation 
    • There are several different ways to qualify a patient for High Frequency Chest Wall Oscillation. 

      1. Regardless of diagnosis, alternative airway clearance techniques must have been documented as tried and failed.

      Examples:

      -CPT (manual or percussor) -Oscillating PEP (Flutter, Acapella, Aerobika, Pep Valve, Pep Mask)
      -Huff coughing -Breathing techniques
      -Hypertonic saline -Suctioning
      -Mucomyst -(Other)

      Failure/Contraindication Examples:

      -Cannot tolerate positioning/hand CPT -Severe arthritis, osteoporosis -Artificial airway
      -Physical limitations of caregiver -Unable to form mouth seal -Insufficient expiratory force
      -GERD -Did not mobilize secretions -Cognitive level
      -Too fragile for hand CPT -Resistance to therapy -Other

       

      2. Patient meets one of the following diagnosis pathways:

      A) Patient has a Cystic Fibrosis diagnosis of: E84.0 or E84.9

      or

      B) Patient has a neuromuscular disease in the category of...

      -Disorders of the diaphragm
      -Motor nueron/Anterior horn cell diseases
      -Multiple sclerosis
      -Muscular dystrophy
      -Myasthenia gravis
      -Myopathies
      -Myotonic disorders
      -Post-polio
      -Quadriplegia

      or

      C) Patient has a CT scan confirming a Bronchiectasis diagnosis of: J47.0, J47.1, J47.9, or Q33.4, AND

      i. Patient has had daily productive cough for more than 6 months, or
      ii. Patient has had more than 2 exacerbations requiring antibiotics in the last 12 months.
