  • The Stuart Z. Katz Professorship in Humanities & the Arts, established in 2017 by a generous gift from Mr. Stuart Z. Katz, supports one outstanding professorial faculty member in the Division of Humanities & the Arts for an academic year. The professorship provides up to two months of summer salary plus $10,000 to support research and creative activity.

     

    Nominees must hold terminal degrees in their respective disciplines, be tenured professorial faculty with at least six years of service in their disciplines, and have served at least five years as a CCNY faculty member.

     

    Nominations must include the following:

     1)  the nominee’s current curriculum vitae documenting a career of distinguished  classroom teaching and scholarship (limited to 15 pages);

     

    2) an example of the nominee’s recent published scholarship (limit to one book or two articles) or creative activity;

     

    3) a brief statement (500 words) by the nominee describing his/her current teaching and creative activity or research agenda.

     

    Candidates may submit books or portfolios of creative activity, as appropriate, directly to the Office of the Dean, to the attention of Maria Olmedo.

     

    Nominations for the Stuart Z. Katz Professor in the Humanities & the Arts will be reviewed by an appointed committee of senior faculty members. The dean will make the final selection based on the recommendation of this committee. The selection committee and the dean evaluate all nominations with a view to rewarding exceptional professional achievement, especially in the areas of scholarship or creative activity and teaching.

     

    In the fall semester of the recipient’s year as Stuart Z. Katz Professor in the Humanities & the Arts, he or she will deliver a plenary lecture on a subject addressing his or her research and creative activity, with a focus on project(s) undertaken during the academic year of appointment.

  • The recipient must be available on October 26, 2026,  at 4:00 pm, to deliver the plenary lecture.
