Steve Bankier, James Gibson, Henning Kruger, Ross Johnson, James Morris.

If you have any questions please contact them directly, or the Canterbury club site officers at: pgsites@chgpc.org.nz or hgsites@chgpc.org.nz

This form is for ROAD ACCESS FOR FREE FLIGHT ONLY. It does not include a classic 'site induction'. For details of the common flying conditions and hazards around the Craigieburns, please refer to the club site guide here.

The gate key is kept in a combination lockbox. The combination is periodically changed by the group administrators.

Once you have completed this induction, you can request to join the Whatsapp group.

Simply send a message to the group the day before you intend to fly and one of the administrators will contact you directly with the current lockbox combination.

  • Road Use Rules

  • Cheeseman Ski field kindly grant us Summer use of the access road. To ensure our continued enjoyment of this premier flying site, we must behave courteously and safely at all times. Cheeseman ski field reserves the right to withdraw gate access if we do not abide by these rules.

This is the best drive-up XC site in Canterbury so we must do our best to preserve access for future pilots to enjoy.

    Rules:

    • Cheeseman ski field staff and users have the right of way on the road at all times.
    • A clear path must be maintained for vehicles accessing the ski field or top lodge at all times.
    • The road is to be used for free-flight launch access ONLY.
    • Cars MUST NOT go higher than the lower launch (below the base buildings) at any time.
    • Cars may go to the lower launch to drop off equipment, and should then be parked in the main carpark.
    • Keep below the road speed limit of 30kph.
    • The gate is to be kept locked at all times.
    • The gate key must be returned to the lockbox immediately after the vehicles have passed through.

There is a significant slip on the road, close to the lower gate. Any worsening of the slip could result in total loss of the road, so it is critical that:

    • Speed is restricted past the slip - obey all road signs
    • The painted line along the edge is physically checked each time (by walking the section prior to driving up). Please report any deterioration immediately to club sites officers.
  • Ski Field Layout

  • Image-14
    1. Primary launch (corner of road below buildings) - NO VEHICLES PAST HERE
    2. Ski field lodge base buildings
    3. Main Car Park (and alternate launch along edge - beware of rotor on lip)
    4. Top Launch - foot access only (~20mins from base buildings)
  • The Gate and Key

  • Road access is granted to us by the ski club purely for free-flight activities only.

The day before flying: Request the current lockbox combination from the Whatsapp group

There is a locked gate at the start of the road, adjacent to the Forest Lodge road. Please leave any other vehicles at the parking area at Texas Flat.

The CHGPC key lockbox is located on the lower signpost, by the forest lodge gate (see photo below). Make sure the gate is re-locked and the key is returned to the lockbox immediately after the vehicles have passed through.

If the gate is open on arrival, leave the gate as you found it!
