Why are we doing this?

When Surfboard Trading Co. founder Brandon Kennedy heard about Tommy and Dani losing their home, he immediately reached out to collaborate on a raffle to raise money for their family. While we were thanking Brandon for jumping in so quickly, he shared that Tommy was the very first person to give his boards a chance — and that IWS was the first surf shop to carry them. Fast forward a few years and 55 retail locations later, Brandon now has a permanent space in the IWS Boardloft. So in Branden's words, This is his chance to say thank you and believing in him at the very beginning."You always take care of the people that take care of you".

Last week, two of our closest friends, Tommy and Dani Lysengen, lost their home to a devastating house fire. Thankfully, they made it out safely with their 5-month-old daughter, Zoe, and their senior pup, Milo — but the road to rebuilding will be a long one.

Tommy and Dani have always been part of the IWS family. Tommy has worked with us for over 15 years, doing just about every job imaginable — from sweeping the parking lot for store credit, to running surf camps, putting in 15-hour days during COVID, managing our buying team, and even inspiring local kids at multiple career days. It was here at IWS that Tommy met Dani, making their bond with our team even deeper.

Dani went on to work with Red Bull marketing and has played a huge role in helping us host epic events that give back to our community and keep our team stoked.
