  • Glasgow Climate Action Hub Skills Bank

  • Do you have skills to share that could help people understand and act on climate change?

Do you offer activities that could be delivered in different settings?

Do you want to bring climate action to new communities?

The Glasgow Climate Action Hub (GCAH) is keen to engage community groups in areas of Glasgow that don't currently have much access to community-based climate activity. We want to support groups using tried and tested approaches that are already proven to be successful.

Many organisations in Glasgow are already doing great climate work driven by passion and expertise, so rather than reinvent the wheel, we want to build a bank of existing skills that can be shared across the city.

All interventions would be funded by the Glasgow Climate Action Hub.

    What are we asking for?

We're asking network members to submit costed "mobile" interventions than can be delivered in different communities/venues. We are asking for details of:

    • The activities – what they are, who they’re designed for, and what the intended outcomes are.
    • The format – for example, a one-off session or a short series, depending on what's needed. Each activity should have a clear start and end point.
    • The location – ideally within the community requesting it, although we can also consider activities delivered in your own space if they can be tailored to community needs and transport can be arranged.

The activities could be anything from creative sessions that introduce people to the concepts of climate change or thematic workshops that give people and communities the skills to act. It could be about biodiversity, or it could be about getting involved in campaigning and influencing decision making. We welcome a wide variety of activities to offer more choice and provide meaningful activities to engage new communities.

How will this skills bank be used?

GCAH staff are engaging with community groups in areas where there is little climate action. When we find an interested group, we'll work with them to choose something from the skills bank that meets their needs and interests.

We'll coordinate between the community group and the provider (you) to arrange the activity. The provider will be paid for the cost of the activity. The community group will be paid for the time needed to engage with their community and coordinate attendance.

The Climate Action Hub will evaluate the activity with the support of all involved and work with the community group to explore its impact and possible next steps including the potential to embed climate action within their regular service delivery.

Am I committing to delivering something?

No. Submitting an activity doesn't mean you're obligated to provide it if/when it's requested. We want communities to be able to see what's out there, but we know it depends on timing and capacity.

If a community requests your activity, we'll reach out to you to see what's possible. We'll also double check costings to make sure they're still accurate. We hope this will provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your activity in a different setting, but there's no pressure if the timing doesn’t work. We'll explore other options with the community. Ideally, we'll built a bank that has several options for any given theme so that communities have more choices.

What happens after I submit an activity?

Nothing immediately. We'll confirm that we've received it and it's been added to the bank and then we'll contact you if someone requests that activity. We'll try to keep in touch periodically to make sure the details are up to date and that you want to remain in the bank. If you change your mind at any time, you can e-mail us at info@gcah.scot to withdraw your activity.

I have activities that we use an external facilitator for, or I am an external facilitator who can deliver activities.

That's fine. If you're an organisation who uses an external facilitator to deliver climate content, we're happy for you to register the activity yourself or on behalf of the facilitator - with their permission of course. It just depends on whether you want to be the point of contact or whether it's easier for us to go straight to them.

If you're an external facilitator. Please feel free to register your activity. We will ask you to provide the name of organisations who you've collaborated with to deliver activities with previously but, otherwise, the process is the same.

In order to be part of the skills bank we do ask that all providers be members of the Glasgow Community Climate Action Network. If you are an independant facilitator, we will contact you to discuss this separately.
