    EVENT:  2026 Jackson County Fall Agricultural Fair

    DATES OF EVENT:  Tuesday, August 25 - Saturday, August, 29, 2026

    DEADLINE FOR PRE-REGISTRATION SCARECROW COMPETITION:  Wednesday, August 19th

    Definition: A decoy or mannequin usually in the shape of a human, dressed in “farmer” type clothing, stuffed with hay, used to discourage birds in crops and fields.

    ‘Exhibitor Information & General Rules’ in the Fair Catalgo plus information contained in this Class Criteria apply. 

    1.       Open to individuals or groups. 

    2.       Only one (1) entry per individual, group, organization, business, classroom, club, etc.

    3.       Pre-Register your Scarecrow by filling out a ‘Pre-Registration Form’ available online at www.jackcountyalfair.com/fall-fair. 

    4.       Entries will be accepted at the Exhibit Building on Friday August 21st from 2:00p to 6:00p and Saturday August 22nd from 9:00a to 1:00p.  

    5.       No perishable materials may be used in the construction of the Scarecrow. 

    6.       Scarecrows must be constructed to be free-standing/self-supporting and have the ability to be moved around on the Fairgrounds. The base cannot exceed 4’ x 4’ and the scarecrow should stand between 4’ and 8’ high. Scarecrows should be dressed in outfit such as jeans, overalls, or similar attire. 

    7.       Rubber or plastic masks are not permitted.  Entry must be family-friendly.  JCFA Fair Board reserves the right to reject any submission not meeting requirements. 

    8.       Scarecrows will become part of the decorations during the Fair and may have other decorative items near or around them during display.  JCFA reserves the right to display Scarecrows at their discretion, including inside or outside of buildings.  

    9.       Refer to ‘Exhibitor Information and General Rules’ Items #25 and #27 for retrieving your Scarecrow and premium award (if awarded).  You may also donate your Scarecrow to JCFA if you choose for displaying at future events.  Scarecrows used as part of a Feature Exhibit Booths decorations are not eligible for separate premium in this Class.

    The following criteria will be used for judging: 

    General Appearance (30 points); Quality of Workmanship (30 points);

    Originality (40 points); Applicable to Fair Theme (5 bonus points maximum)
