A troop is considered disbanded when either new leadership cannot be recruited, or the Girl Scouts and the troop leaders no longer want to continue. Please read the Steps to Disband Troop before completing this form. Once you complete this form, Badgerland will be notified of your troop disbandment.
Please contact Customer Care at 800-236-2710 if you have questions regarding the disbandment of your troop.
Steps to Disband Troop:
1. Explain membership options to the families:
- Become a member of another troop, if one is available.
- Become a Juliette (individually Registered Girl Scout) with no troop affiliation.
2. Send required notification of troop disbandment to all families using this council template (copy and paste and send an e-mail to all the parents in your troop):
Hello Families of Troop xxxx:
Troop xxxx, your child’s troop, plans to disband (or has already done so).
We hope that your Girl Scout enjoyed her time with our troop, but her Girl Scout experience doesn't need to end! She can:
- Join another troop! If your Girl Scout knows which troop, you can renew her directly to that troop. Otherwise, you can email info@gsbadgerland.org for assistance in finding another troop.
- Become a Juliette (individually Registered Girl Scout) - This would allow her to stay involved with camp, product sales, travel opportunities, council events, and more at her own pace.
Please let me know and email info@gsbadgerland.org for assistance on your next step decision.
If your child is no longer interested in participating in Girl Scouts, we understand and want to extend a thank you to you and your family for supporting her Girl Scout endeavors over the years. She is always welcome to return in the future; all you need to do is contact our council. Thank you for your time!

3. Discuss with the Girl Scouts how to use the remaining funds:
- If any Girl Scouts are continuing by joining another troop, remaining troop funds will follow them and will be divided equally. The troop leader will use a troop check or obtain a cashier's check made payable to the other troop and mail it to Badgerland. Please note on the check; Troop Fund Transfer for, add the Girl Scout(s) name(s).
- If a Girl Scout is becoming a Juliette, her portion of the troop funds will be sent in to Badgerland to manage.
4. Close the troop bank account:
- Once the last funds are spent or sent to Badgerland, and all checks have cleared, submit your last 12 months' worth of bank statements to Badgerland using this form: https://girlscoutsbadgerland.formstack.com/forms/bank_statement_submission_form. Then close the bank account.
- If any funds remain in the bank account, have a cashier's check drawn, made payable to Badgerland, as soon as possible. DO NOT get cash!
- Mail the check to:
Girl Scouts of Wisconsin-Badgerland
4801 S. Biltmore Ln,
Madison, WI 53718.
- Please note: The funds are for Girl Scout activities and are not to be retained by individuals as their “property.” Girls may collectively agree to contribute a portion of remaining troop funds to another local troop, their local Service Unit, or to purchase items to donate, as well as projects they consider worthwhile. Appropriate use of funds includes choosing a program activity, renewing the Girl Scouts’ memberships for the next year, purchasing a Lifetime Membership for graduating high school seniors, donating to another local troop, donating to your local Service Unit, donating to Girl Scouts of Wisconsin – Badgerland Council, or donating to Juliette Gordon Low World Friendship Fund.
Remaining troop funds that are sent to Badgerland will be distributed equally to all the Girl Scouts in the troop that have been active in the troop one year before the troop became inactive to be used for Girl Scout programing, Sashay! purchases, etc.
