This scholarship provides an annual half-tuition award (excluding fees) for the duration of enrollment, provided the student maintains a 3.5 GPA or higher, fulfills all chaplaincy, retreat, service, and athletic requirements, participates fully in at least one student club or organization, and avoids serious disciplinary infractions.
This scholarship was established in 2023 in honor of Father Paul Kidner, O.S.B., a monk of Saint Louis Abbey who taught math for more than 50 years and served as the school’s second headmaster. Born in England and educated at Oxford, Father Paul was famous for his dry sense of humor, frugality, and industry. He loved opera, Missouri streams, and Cardinals Baseball—and taught all his students how to be serious, love Jesus, and have fun at the same time.
The Kidner Scholarship is awarded to 7th grade students whose academic profile and personal character stand out.
The Father Paul Kidner Scholar will:
- have achieved a top score on the SSAT
- have earned superior marks in 5th and 6th grades (as applicable)
- possess outstanding character and leadership qualities as outlined in his application and referenced in enthusiastic letters of recommendation
- have provided a well-written and thought-provoking essay
- have performed well in a personal interview with the Admissions Committee
- have a strong desire to receive a Catholic Benedictine formation, as illustrated by the 12 Hallmarks of a Benedictine School
The recipient of this scholarship will be selected by the Saint Louis Priory School Admissions Committee from among all applicants for admission. Finalists will be asked to complete an on-campus interview.
